Waterford...Colligan 'Rockies' 4 Mile - Sun 31st August (3pm)

"A new race on the calender is the Colligan Rockies/Emmets GAA club 4 mile road race starting at 3 PM.entries taken at club pavilion from 2 PM.entry fee 7 euro.As well as the usual catagory prizes there will be a special GAA club section teams of three with mens and Womens team's expected to participate.The race will be part of the Kilbrien,Colligan and Kilgobnet family fun day.All are welcome "
Colligan is a few kms to the North West of Dungarvan in West Waterford.

Tipperary...Results of the Ballingarry 5k Road Race...17th Aug 2008

The results of the 'Michael Cahill' 5 km road race which was held back in Ballingarry on the 17th of August are now available. It looks like the turnout may have a bit on the low side due to the Tipperary/Waterford hurling match yet there were still some fast times posted on the day.

Races this week...Tues 19th to Sun 24th of Aug & Upcoming Half Marathons

This week in Munster, the only road races are in Cork. On Wednesday, the Cork BHAA are holding their 'Army/Navy' 5 mile race in the Naval base in Ringaskiddy. More details on this race can be found on the Running in Cork blog. Later in the week, there is an 8km road race in Liscarroll in North Cork. Details on that race will be posted on the Running in Cork blog on Friday.

On a seperate issue, there are 2 Half Marathons coming up in Munster in September.

On the 7th of September, Waterford AC are hosting the AAI National Half Marathon. You can find an entry form for this race HERE. The closing date for Team entries is Wednesday, the 27th of August. It's not clear if this applies to individual entries or not.

One week after the Waterford race, St.Finbarrs AC are holding the annual Cork Half Marathon in Blarney just outside Cork on Sunday, the 14th of September. An entry from for this race can be found HERE.

Waterford...Results of the Ardmore 5 Mile Road Race - Fri 15th Aug 2008

A big crowd of almost 200 runners turned out for this well organised road race in Ardmore in West Waterford. Outside of the prizes for the top 3 men and women, the other prizes went to first man and women finisher of each of the 12 starsigns!!

Tipperary...'Michael Cahill' 5 km Road Race, Ballingarry

This 5 km road race takes place at 2:30pm in the village of Ballingarry near Killenaule in the South East of Tipperary. With the opening of the new section of the N8 road between Mitchelstown and Cashel, this area is now a lot easier to get to especially to any runners coming from the South.

Note that on Saturday, RTE issued the following..."In Tipperary, a bridge in Ballynunty is impassable. There is flooding in Killenaule and also between Fethard and Cashel. "

Waterford...Fri 15th Aug 2008 - Ardmore 5 Mile Road Race

There are only 2 road races in Munster this week. The first one up is the Ardmore 5 Mile road race on Friday evening at 7:30pm. This is a really nice area and is of course perhaps better known for it's very distinctive Round Tower. Here is some additional info about the race from the West Waterford AC website...

An Tobar-Ardmore 5 final race in Ger Wyley Sports/Nike summer series.Entries-changing -showers Ardmore G.A.A. club house. Teas and sandwiches plus presentation of race prizes and overall series presentation at An Tobar. Race starts 7.30 pm, entry fee 8 euro.
Ardmore is just off the N25 Cork to Waterford road and is located just East of Youghal.

Looking ahead to the road race this week - Wed 6th to Sun 10th of August

This is a busy week with regard to the running scene in Munster with no less than 5 races on offer. On Wednesday evening, there is the Cork BHAA 'Novartis' 5 km road race in Ringaskiddy. More information on this race is available on the Running in Cork blog.
On Friday, there is the 'Streets of Cobh' 5 km race in Cork while there is also the 'Deadmans' 5 Mile race in Carrick on Suir in South Tipp.
On Saturday afternoon, there is the Shanagarry festival 5k and finally on Sunday, there is a 5 mile race down in West Cork from Crookhaven to Goleen. All said and done, there are plenty of races to choose from this week.
