New Half-Marathon & Marathon in Munster

It has just been announced that there will be a half marathon and marathon in Dingle, west Kerry on Saturday, the 12th of September. The highlights of the event are...
  • The full marathon (26.2 miles) starts and finishes in Dingle. The route takes in Ventry, Slea Head, Dunquin and Ballyferriter.

  • The half marathon starts in Dingle, runs around Slea Head and finishes in Dunquin. Runners then return to Dingle by bus.

  • The roads will be closed for the duration of the event.
The routes chosen are not easy. There are plenty of hills and drags so they are not really courses for setting fast times. However weather permitting, this will be quite simply be the most scenic race anywhere in the country.

Prices...the entry fee is €60 which for a half marathon is very expensive.

For more information, look at the event website

Results of the Munster Masters Road Championships...22nd March 2009

The Munster Masters Road Championships took place in Beaufort, Co.Kerry last Sunday on what was a lovely sunny day. The mens race took place over a 4 mile circuit while the women completed 2 miles.

The photo above shows the winner of the womens race Niamh O'Sullivan of An Riocht AC finishing. What's amazing is that despite the fact the course was only 2 miles long, there is no sign of the rest of the field in the long finishing straight behind.

The mens race results are available HERE.

The womens race results are HERE.

Photos....there are some photos of the womens race up on the Eagle AC website.

Limerick...Plassey 10 km fun run - Sat 21st Mar 2009

There are 2 road races in Munster next weekend. One is the Munster Masters Road Race Championships in Beaufort in Co.Kerry on Sunday. This event is pre-entry only and only athlethic club members can take part.

The other event is the Plassey 10 km charity run in Limerick City on Saturday, the 21st of March at 11am. Note that this is more of a fun run than a serious race so the distance may not be exactly 10 kms. From what I hear, last year was a bit short so don't be too worried about your finish time.

Limerick...Results of the Adare 10 km road race - Sun 1st March 2009

I'm not exactly sure why but the numbers taking part this year have really increased. Last year, they got 219 entrants which is a pretty good number for a regional race. This year, they got 328 runners, an increase of almost 50% !! Getting an increase of 50% on a day when there are 2 other races in Munster is pretty amazing. Reason...???
