Tipperary.....Inter-firm Road League - Wed 31st March 2010

Just a quick reminder that the Inter-Firm road league is on this evening in Clonmel, Co.Tipp.

Details below.....

This League will commence on Wednesday 31st March and will continue on Wednesday 7th and 14th of April. On the 21st April we will have the handicap race. This year all athletes must predict their finishing time for each race when entering. Then everyone must run the course without a watch. Their finishing times will be recorded at the finish. An athlete will score points for his team by the number of seconds he/she is closest to his/her time. This year it will be the cumulative combined time for the best three athletes on each team closest to their predicted time. So if one athletes predicts 30 mins and runs 29 mins 30 secs, its -10 secs another athlete on the team runs 29 mins and predicts 29 mins 10 secs, that plus 10 seconds while the 3rd athlete to count on the team runs 29 mins 5 secs while predicting 29 mins, that plus 5 seconds, so their combined score is 5 seconds. The team with the lowest number of points wins. The best three athletes, who finish closest to their time, not where they finished in the race, will count for their team. So you, the athlete, can set your own time each night and go for it.
So now is the time to be organising your teams and remember teams can be mixed and members can come from different places of employment. Teams can consist of five athletes with three to count each night. The entry fee is €12 and it covers all four races. For further enquiries please contact Niall O Sullivan at 086 1660888

Races in Munster on St.Patricks Day...17th March 2010

As far as I can tell, there are 3 road races in Munster on Wednesday.

Cork......
Rising Sun AC are holding their annual 4 mile road race in Ballinhassig which is about 8 miles south west of Cork City just off the main Bandon road. This starts at 11am. More info on the Running in Cork website.

Tipperary....
The Ned Kelly 4 mile starts at 12pm in Moyglass, Co.Tipperary. (....info from Shane in comment on this post)

Limerick....
In Limerick, there is a 6.2 km race in Croom which starts at 2pm.
More info from Donal O'Donoghue...

The sixth annual Joey Hannon Memorial 6 km road race takes place in
Croom, over the same course as last year.

This event took place in excellent weather last year, and the forecast
for Wednesday is similar!

Registration is at the local Community Centre.

Walkers set out at 1:30 and runners at 2pm.

The race starts outside, and proceeds downhill, past the AIB, and
turning sharply right onto Main Street.

At the far end of the town, turn right near the Garda Station, and then gradual uphill, passing the Mid-Western Regional Orthopaedic Hospital.

The middle section of the race is over quiet narrow country roads, with slight humps over disused railway bridges.

There is a sharp left at Caherass Nursing Home, which brings you back onto the old main Limerick Road.
While this is a wider section of road, you will encounter road traffic, and probably begin to overtake the walkers, who may be several abreast.

The final few hundred metres will overlap with the start, so remember there's a *steep* hill ahead right at the end.

Refreshments and spot prizes in the Community Centre.
