Results of the 2010 Dingle Half, Full and Ultra Marathon - Sat 4th Sept 2010

Before the event, it looked as if this event might be a wet affair with a cold front passing over. As it happened, the rain arrived early and the weather was ok for the big occasion in Dingle.

This year, there were 3 races on offer.

1) The Half-Marathon attracted around 1355 runners, up slightly on last years figure of 1326. The full results can be seen in XLS format HERE

2) A total of 382 runners took part in the full Marathon which is up from the 2009 figure of 314. The full results can be seen in XLS format HERE

When you compare the numbers to the Galway and Longford events then the Dingle certainly held it's own.
In the Half, Dingle got a huge turnout of 1355 which compares to 684 in Galway and 342 in Longford.
In the full Marathon, Dingle got 382 compared to 210 in Galway and 186 in Longford. Admittedly, the Galway and Longford events did go head to head yet still, it's hard to imagine that either event would have been as popular as Dingle.

3) The 3rd race in Dingle was of course the 50 mile Ultra-Marathon! This started at 7am and it must have been very lonely as the half and full Marathon runners were long gone by the time the Ultra runners arrived in Dingle around the 24 mile mark. This race attracted 45 hardy souls and was won by Vasiliy Neumerzhitskiy of Clonmel AC in a time of 6h 22m. What's even more remarkable is that Vasiliy had finished 2nd in the Longford Marathon just 6 days earlier in a time of 2h 45m!!

The challenge of a 50 mile race is of course completing it rather than just time.

The Ultra roll of honour can be seen in XLS format HERE

Did the half marathon yesterday. It was quite challenging with lots of hills to contend with but the scenery was beautiful. Entry fee was a bit expensive though. Would like to try the full marathon next year!!

Did full marathon yesterday, great weather fab scenary, last hill was hard at that stage in the race. How about trying the reverse route and ending with the great scenery.

Ran the full marathon on Saturday in Dingle..Very hot with little shade..Well organised ..Lots of hills but what do you expect in Kerry :) Only disappointment was the shirt at the end..You think they would have given something you could use..For the money and effort to goto Dingle and then run 26.2 miles , I believe we deserved a bit more than a cotton top.....While on the course I met one of the organisers for the upcoming Clonakility Marathon and afterwards saw the shirt they will be supplying for that race..A great technical running top..For a novice runner like myself it's all about the shirts...Cork last year t-shirt..Dublin last year brill running top..Cork this year a jersey and then dingle , a long sleeve cotton t shirt ..Someone's making a lot of money off these races..Ah well gonna stick to the low key events like the connemara marathons..no shirt but €20 a race..now that's running for runners.. :)

I did the Ultra and it was one of the best races I've ever taken part in.

They had 65 entries, and the 45 names in the results might not include anyone who finished over 12 hours. I sure thought there were more than 45 people at the start. The cut-off time was 11 hours, but the RD had told us beforehand that nobody would be pulled off the course, no matter how long they were out there, but they might not get an official finishing time, which I thought was fair enough.

The organisation was excellent and they seem to have a special dispensation from the Weather Gods because last year's weather was just as sunny. Granted, it's not entirely ideal for running, but it sure enhanced the absolutely gobsmacking scenery.

Can't wait for next year!

I did the ultra as well and enjoyed it more than any other race/event.

We were treated well, water/aid stations well stocked.

Weather and scenery fantastic, if you are thinking of doing an ultra you should really consider this one

I did the Half marathon - i enjoyed the day. As the others said it was very hilly and that last hill was a real killer. My only complaint would be the half marathon finished out of town. It would have been nice to run back into the town and soak up the atmosphere.
