Kerry - John Lenihan - Mountain Running Legend Pt.1 of 3

For the last 2 decades, the name of John Lenihan has been synonymous with the sport of Mountain Running in Ireland. The man from Toureen in County Kerry has won multiple races over his career as well as becoming the World Mountain Running Champion in Switzerland back in 1991.

He has won the Carrauntoohil race in Kerry on 19 occasions and holds the current record of 71 minutes 43 seconds.
That time of just over 71 minutes is not the time for just getting to the summit. It's the time taken to run from the base of the mountain, up to the top of Caher, Irelands 3rd highest mountain (1001 metres asl)........accross the ridge to Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in the country (1039 metres asl) ......and then return by the same route! An incredible time.

A 2 hour video has now been compiled and is available in 3 parts of roughly 40 minutes each.

Part 1 of 3 is shown below...

Clare...New Marathon Event in Sixmilebridge

One of Ireland's newest Marathons will kick off next Sunday, the 14th of November 2010 in the village of Sixmilebridge in Co.Clare. This race is unique in that it basically consists of 26 one mile loops! As you can imagine, keep track of the runners and the number of laps requires a lot of work and as a result, the number of entries had to be restricted. Entries for the 2010 race are now closed with runners from all over Ireland expected to attend.

Munster Intermediate Cross Country Championships...Sun 7th Nov 2010

Charleville Hosts Munster Championship

On Sunday next, the 7th of November, the North Cork AC will host the Munster Juvenile Uneven age and Intermediate Cross Country Championships at the Charleville Showgrounds at 12 noon. The juvenile races for club athletes ranging from Under 9 to Under 19 will be first off with the adult races to follow where there are large fields of competitors expected. The event is open to spectators from the public with an admission fee of 5 Euro for Adults and 2 Euro per child.

There has been a significant increase in numbers joining athletics clubs in the last year or so from around Munster at all ages and thus a similar increase has been seen in athletes competing at these events at all levels, from county to national championships. There is expected to be up to 1500 people attending the race on Sunday so it will be a great spectator event as well as a great event to take part in.
