DWYER ON THE DOUBLE
There were celebrations all round with the O’ Dwyer family as Michael Dwyer won the Colligan Cup shield for the second time in the history of the race and he is the only person to have accomplished this feat. Prior to the adult race, the juvenile race took place and it was Michael’s nephew Tony that claimed victory so all in all it was a great day for the O’ Dwyers. It was also a first in that there were so many to have crossed the line before the clock had reached zero so Victor Mullins who created this unique system had an easy enough job in selecting the winner. As already mentioned Michael Dwyer hit the line at exactly 0.00 followed by Ray Hahessy, Gerry Cantwell who is another former winner of this race. In fourth place overall and the first lady was Karen Ryan and in fifth place was Brendan Foran. As Karen was the first lady she claimed the prize for that and so the prize for second lady went to Martina Morrissey, followed by Anna Ballot, Sarah Power and Julie Harty. Those girls all ran together and kept each other going over the mucky conditions so they well deserved their prizes. As is tradition each year at this race, a pair of runners is raffled among all participants (kindly donated by Ger Wyley of Wyley sports) but as this was the 25th year of the race it was decided that the runners would go to the 25th person to cross the line after the clock had reached 0.00 and the lucky winner of the lovely runners this year was Susan Pike, well done to you Susan. It was fast and furious at the end with all the runners gathering together over the last half mile or so, so well done to all the runners that took part and thanks to you all for supporting this great race. Thanks also to all the spectators who came out to support the runners as they covered the three and a half laps of the wood. The winner will have their name inscribed on the plaque in the wood for all to see and the pressure on Michael now will be to see if he can record the treble in 2014!

VICTOR MULLINS CUP GOES TO BRENDAN FORAN
Victor Mullins was the creator of this style of race and each year Victor is present to pick the winner of the race. With the last number of years, Victor also awards the Victor Mullins Cup to the first person on the right side of the clock that has never ran the Colligan Cup before. This year’s winner, Brendan Foran of Clonea Power was glad he made the trip to the wood as not only was he the fifth man overall in the race but he was also the winner of Victor’s cup, so well done to you Brendan. Our thanks go to Victor for his help and involvement with this race each year and for his award......West Waterford AC
