The Good Friday Run 2010

Press Release

One not to miss - Under the Killarney Starlight on Good Friday 2nd April 2010.

The official launch of The Good Friday Run took place on Sunday the 13th of December at Feet First (Running & Walking specialists), High Street, Killarney. The Feet First team are delighted that Gneevenguilla Athletic Club have leant their support in securing an AAI permit for the event. They would also like to thank The Killarney Gardai and Killarney Town Council in their assistance for the event.

Feet First hope that Killarney will become the hub for running in 2010, and that the town and local businesses will benefit from the event. The organisers hope that the event can combine fun runners, joggers, club athletes and top class internationals competing over a fast 5 mile course through the streets of Killarney by night.

To register for the event register via the website www.thegoodfridayrun.ie or download a registration form from the website. Numbers are limited for this event.

This year “The Good Friday Run” will benefit The Kerry Stars and Down Syndrome Kerry. The Stars Special Olympics Club was formed in September 2002 by a group of families. Its objective was and still is to provide athletes with special needs the opportunity to be productive and respected members of society through participation in an all year round sports and competition programme. This in turn creates a more positive self image, inclusion, enjoyment and new friendships for the athletes. The Kerry Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland supports people with Down Syndrome and their families. The branch is organised and run by parents and siblings and activities and services represent the wishes of our members. The main services that we provide are speech therapy, occupational therapy and supported employment. We also run swimming classes, junior and senior Christmas parties, summer banquets and family fun day and other social activities. Their aim is to help each individual develop their full potential and make their futures as bright and independent as possible.

Each online entry will automatically receive a sponsorship card for these charities.

Race Details: This event is being professionally timed by Red Tag Timing. The first man and woman will receive €400 each with an additional bonus of setting the course record for next year. Prizes will be on offer to all category winners and everyone who takes part in the event receives a substantial goody bag. The entry fee to this unique event is €20.

The race will also have a specific emphasis on promoting physical activity and introducing newcomers to the sport of running and a number of initiatives with Fit 4 Life Groups, training groups and individual training beginning in the New Year. There will be a strong family emphasis to this event where Feet first have incorporated a Number of Family events taking place throughout the evening including a children’s egg and spoon race to incorporate the Easter festivities.

So put the 2nd of April down on your running/New Year’s Resolution calendar and take part in what will be a very special road race through the streets of Killarney. This is a preregistered event so remember get your entry in as soon as possible as places are limited.
