Tipperary...Results of the Ballynonty 10 mile race - Sun 31st July 2011

There was a record entry of 100 runners for this low key 10 mile road race in Ballynonty, South Tipperary. Looking back the last few years, the numbers were........2008 - 73, 2009 - 66 and 2010 - 80.
Top 4 men...1st to 4th..Left to Right

The winner of the mens race was Danny Smith from the home club Ballynonty AC. Danny won in a time of 55:53, over 2 minutes ahead of the second placed man Shane Mullaney of Thurles Crokes AC who ran 58:00 flat. Conor O'Dwyer of Raheny Shamrock ran 58:36 to finish 3rd while Ross Alexander of Coolquill AC was 4th in 58:51.

In the womens race, Angela McCann of Clonmel AC won in a time of 61:34, over two and a half minutes clear of her nearest rival. Margaret Danaher of Templemore ran 64:00 to finish 2nd. Myshola Kirwin from Coventry ran 64:17 to finish 3rd while Aine Roche finished fourth in 69:22.

Also present at Ballynonty as a spectator was former Olympian Colin Kirkham, father of Myshola who finished 3rd. He was a member of the British marathon team at the Munich Olympics in 1972, along with Ron Hill and Don MacGregor. He finished 20th in 2:21:55. He also ran in the European Championships in 1991 (fourth in 2:16:22) and the Commonwealth Games in 1974. He is also a former winner of the Athens Marathon.

  1. Thought it was a good pretty flat course and very little car traffic on main road. My first time and thoroughly recomend it - hope to be back next year. Great hospitality as well. Tremendous effort by this smal community and I would love to see them an awful lot more support.

  2. Super race today ,good honest course with water in cups and bottles at 2,4,6,8 miles nice to see danny smith win his club race . the like of the food i havent seen at arace for a long time and all for ten € defenitily a race on the up .W ell done to all concerned
