The GlaxoSmithKline 5 mile road race is coming up in Dungarvan, West Waterford on Friday evening, the 6th of July 2012 at 8pm. The entry fee for the race is €10 and includes a technical t-shirt for the first 250 registered! As races go, that's exceptional value.
This is also the 8th race of 10 in the Ger Wyley Sports Summer Series.
Notes from West Waterford AC, the organisers of the race...
Our next race in the popular Ger Wyley Sports/Nike summers series will be this coming Friday evening when the we have the GlaxoSmithKline sponsored GSK 5 mile road race, The Munster Special Olympics and Irish Dogs for the Disabled will be the worthy charity benefactors from Friday nights race. The race will start at 8 pm at the Kilrush estate. This is regarded by many to be one of the fastest 5 milers in the country and one where most personal best 5 mile times have been recorded over the years. The course records currently held for this course are held by Sandis Bralitis of West Waterford who in 2008 clocked 24.34.In the ladies, it was Sinead Cummins who way back in 2004 set the ladies record of 29.20. This race is always superbly organised by the hard working staff of GSK under race director Dermot Dwyer and his team. The entry fee to the race is 10 Euros with a technical T shirt to the first 250 entered, registration will be taken in the soccer club, and entries will be taken from 6.45 onwards with the race getting underway at 8 pm sharp. Changing and showers will also be available at the soccer club and it’s also where the refreshments will be provided after the race as well as the presentation of prizes.
The easiest way to get to the race HQ is to find the garage on the ring road around the town...
The white houses that you can see above are at the entrance to Kilrush estate. The local soccer club is literally just in about 100 metres.
Course.....this is a very fast 5 mile course. Any hills are very small indeed and you should be able to post a very fast time on this course.
Overall......A well organised race on a fast course. With a tech top for the first 250 to register for just €10, it's exceptional value as short races go. It's likely to attract runners from a wide catchment area. Just get there early.
