From Clonmel AC......The first Open Road Race of 2015 in County Tipperary took place in Newcastle with the annual 5K road race. The race attracted an entry of 179 athletes which was great despite the very cold conditions of severe frost and icy roads early in the morning. The race started and soon Kevin Maunsell (Clonmel A C) went to the front and made every stride a winning one as he came home a very worthy and convincing winner in a new Course Record of 16 mins 21 secs, well inside last year's winning time of 16 mins 52 secs set by David Mansfield of Clonmel AC, brilliant running. Then we had Jimmy Boland (Clonmel AC) finishing 2nd in 17 mins 6 secs with Mark Darmody (Clonmel A C) finishing 3rd in 17 mins 13 secs.

In the ladies race, we had Aine Roche (Clonmel AC) winning in 18 mins 59 secs with Angela McCann (Clonmel A C) 2nd in 19 mins 13 secs and Carmel Fitzgibbon (Thurles Crokes) 3rd in 19 mins 15 secs.

The Master Men category winners were:1st over 40 John Browne (Clonmel A C) 19 mins 38 secs, 1st over 45 Conor Fleming (Clonmel A C) 18 mins 2 secs and 1st over 50 Billy Prout (Clonmel A C) 20 mins 23 secs. The Master Women category winners were: 1st over 35 Mary Molloy (Carrick on Suir) 20 mins 30 secs, 1st over 40 Siobhan McHugh (Clonmel AC) 19 mins 35 secs and 1st over 45 Anna Byrne (Clonmel AC) 22 mins 43 secs.

The organising committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event such a great success, the scones and tea went down a treat afterwards in the Community Hall. The Committee would also like to thank the Civil Defence for looking after the First Aid.
