From Clonmel AC.......The 5th race of the Clonmel AC 4k series, sponsored by the Barlo Motor Group took place in ideal conditions for running. Once again we had a very good entry of 122 athletes so far this series of races has attracted 228 athletes. Many of these athletes were competing in this series for the very first time and it was great to see the progress many of them have made over the 5 races to date. We have one more race of this series to go and that is next Wednesday night when the race will be run in aid of the Lourdes Pilgrimage Trust, a very worthy charity that takes approx 500 children with special needs to Lourdes for a week at Easter. So all monies donated at next Wednesday night’s race will go to this very worthy cause. It costs approx 1000 Euros to bring a child on this trip every year, so all monies collected will be deeply appreciated by this Trust.
Back to the race and the first three men were Joey Feery in 14 mins 23 secs, Declan Curley 14 mins 58 secs and Keith O Brien in 14 mins 58 secs. The top three women were Aine Roche 15 mins 52 secs, Siobhan McHugh 16 mins 9 secs and Yvonne O Connor 17 mins 23 secs. The results are based on your Chip time that is the time from when the athlete starts under the gantry to the time that they finished under the gantry. I see a few athletes started down the field at the start and then put in a great effort to pass as many athletes as possible and so it is their net time (Chip Time) that counts. The results also show the split times for each lap and it is rounded up to the nearest second. Once again, it was an ideal night for running and it was great to see many athletes improve on their PBs.
Once again we are very grateful to the Barlo Motor Group for sponsoring this year’s series and the grand prize of driving a new car for a week. We are also very grateful to the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as race headquarters and to all the stewards who ensured that the whole event was a brilliant success.
