Report from Clonmel AC....The 5th promotion of the Morrison Mini sponsored Cahir RUN4Fun 4mile road race, promoted by Clonmel Athletic Club, took place on Wednesday the 26th of April 2017 in good running conditions. This year’s race nominated Charity was the South Tipp Hospice.
The race started outside the Morrison Mini showrooms and right from the start a group of three athletes set the pace led by Nigel O Flaherty (Clonmel AC) and hot on his heels was William O Dwyer (Dundrum AC). Nigel kept a strong pace going and came home a very worthy winner in 22 mins 6 secs and defended his title very well having won last year’s race. Then we had William O Dwyer running well when finishing 2nd in 22 mins 18 secs with Alex Davey of Dundrum 3rd in 23 mins 6 secs. Brian Carroll of Clonmel AC won the over 40 award when finishing in 23 mins 35 secs with Michael O Sullivan of Carrick on Suir 2nd over 40 in 23 mins 49secs.
The women’s race was won by Clare Annan of Clonmel AC in 23 mins 39 secs with Linda Grogan of Dundrum AC 2nd in 24 mins 57 secs. Suzanne Shine of Clonmel was 1st over 35 in 58 mins 58 secs with Michelle Doherty also of Clonmel AC 2nd in 27 mins 11 secs.
At the Presentation of the Prizes, Frank Lynch Vice Chairperson of Clonmel AC thanked the Garda, Civil Defence and the many stewards who ensured the whole event was a great success. Gary Morrison of Morrison Mini Cahir also thanked the many people who helped in any way to make the event such a success and in particular all his staff for all their hard work over the past couple of days. He was also delighted to have South Tipp Hospice as the chosen Charity this year.
Then we had the Special draw where for every 12 athletes that crossed the finishing line one of them received a voucher and this was done by having Pre selected finishing positions drawn while the race was in progress. So the prizes were evenly distributed throughout the whole race and everyone had an equal chance of winning. This is the only event in Ireland that distributes the prizes in this way and the prizes varied from 100 Euros to 20 Euros.
