Just want to say very dissapointed with the course being over the 5 miles as it was advertised as a 5 miler . 5:08 miles on my watch at the finish line and when i spoke to others they had the same distance clocked. The first woman home reported to have 5:10 miles. Nice course with plenty of up and down running but wont go back until the course is checked and verified again.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with above comments. I was on course for a PB going by my average pace, however my watch beeped for 5 miles before I turned the corner to head for home. My garmin covered 5.07 miles and in all my years of running, I have never gone over .02 of a mile in the overall distance.
ReplyDeleteIf a course measures 5.0 miles exactly on a GPS watch then it would be very suspicious. Because most runners don't follow the racing line and a course correction factor to make sure the course can't be short, most GPS watches should read in the region of 5.05 miles. 5.07 doesn't sound excessive. I checked the course on MapMyRun this morning and it came out at 5.07 miles although that is a very crude method.
ReplyDelete5.1 miles does sound a bit excessive although not if it was from just one watch. Distances on GPS watches are not exact.
the course is measured and was measured by a joans counter qualified AAI certified official course measurer.
