Clare...Results & photos of the Clare 10k - Sat 21st May 2016
As can be seen from the chart above, the numbers were down again this year for the annual Clare 10k in Ennis. Since its heyday in 2008, the numbers have been dropping despite one respite in 2011. This year, they are down 28.5% on 2015 which is a significant drop.
As races go in Co.Clare, 455 is still pretty big but nowhere near the 1200 they used to get.

Report from Clonmel AC...The Poulmucka road races took place last Friday night with athletes having to contend with damp conditions. Still this didn’t deter over 280 athletes competing and there were some great performances throughout the races. The 8K attracted a good quality entry of 193 athletes with 88 athletes competing over the 5k course. The 8K race was started by Andy Moloney and soon after the start the pace was dictated by Jimmy Boland of Clonmel Ac and the eventual winner William Stevens of Coolquill AC. These two athlete drew well clear of the chasing pack just before the 4k mark. It was over the final 2k that William increased the pace and soon opened a lead on Jimmy which he held all the way to the line to win in 27 mins 7 secs with Jimmy finishing 2nd in 27 mins 28 secs. These were two great performances from two improving athletes. Then we had Michael J Ryan (Dundrum AC) emerging for the chasing pack over the final km to finish 3rd in 28 mins 5 secs with Paddy Cummins (Moycarkey Coolcroo AC) 4th in 28 mins 23 secs and Colin Bradshaw (Dundrum AC) 5th in 28 mins 31 secs. The Master men’s awards were won as follow: 1st over 40 Keith O Brien (Clonmel AC) 29:06, 2nd over 40 Ruaidhri Devitt (Dundrum AC) 29:21, 1st over 45 Dermot Hayes (Dundrum AC) 28:46, 2nd over 45 Conor Fleming (Clonmel AC) 29:58, 1st over 50 Bernard Feery (Fethard AC) 29:32, 2nd over 50 Valerin Thzcoin (Cahir) 30:02, 1st over 55 Billy Prout (Clonmel AC) 36:36, 2nd over 55 John Conneally (Clerihan) 38:52, 1st over 60 Tommy Cahill (Clonmel) 34:50, 2nd over 60 Jimmy Lonergan (Clonmel AC) 35:48.
The Ladies race was also very competitive. Here Aine Roche, fresh back for her altitude training, took up the pace early on in the race and soon moved well clear of the chasing pack. She kept that pace going to win this event for the first time when finishing in 31 mins 35 secs, great running over a demanding course. Then we had a right tussle for 2nd spot for most of the race, then over the closing stages, Annmarie Boland (Clonmel AC) went clear of Linda Grogan (Dundrum AC) to finish 2nd in 32 mins 22 secs with Linda further 3 secs adrift, great running, a double 2nd for the Boland household. Then we had Phil Ryan (Ballynonty AC) finishing 4th in 32 mins 59 secs with Suzanne Shine (Clonmel AC) 5th in 33 mins 48 secs. The Women’s Master awards were as follows: 1st over 35 Elaine Walley (Clonmel Tri Club) 34:44, 2nd over 35 Dympna Ryan (Dundrum AC) 35:09, 1st over 40 Siobhan McHugh (Clonmel AC) 33:54, 2nd over 40 Yvonne O Connor (Clonmel AC) 33:59, 1st over 45 Sheila Perry (Clonmel AC) 35:53, 2nd over 45 Aine Moore (Ballymac Road Runners) 40:23, 1st over 50 Anna Byrne (Clonmel AC) 36:05, 2nd over 50 Mary Trehy (Fethard) 41:24 and 1st over 55 Mari Murphy Condon (Clonmel AC) 48:52.
The Presentation of Prizes took place after the well prepared Post Race Refreshments were taken care of and once again the event was well organised by the local committee and promoted by Clonmel AC.

The race starts and finishes outside the GAA grounds in the village. The first mile is a gradual climb before it flattens out and there is plenty of running on flat country roads to the village of Kilmurry. As you turn for home, you soon pass the 15th Century Mountcashel Castle. Near the 5 mile mark, you turn off right onto a narrower and quieter country road which has one or two pulls. As you approach the 6 mile mark, you have a very fast downhill finish to the 10k mark. For more information, visit www.sixmilebridge10k.com

Waterford...Results of the Splashworld 10k in Tramore - Fri 13th May 2016
The annual Splashworld 10k road race in Co.Waterford was held on Friday the 13th of May and attracted a field of 186 runners. That's a drop of about 21% on last year.
As you can see, the numbers were very steady for the previous three years but were well down this year. The race had been rescheduled from an earlier date so that might have had an impact. It was a lovely summer evening so that wasn't a factor. The one big change this year is that there in a new 5k parkrun in Tramore every Saturday morning. That event which is free contrasts to the €15 which it cost to enter the 10k. On Saturday the 14th, 83 people took part in the parkrun so some may well have opted for the free event.

Report from Clonmel AC......Niall McCormack wins Annerville 10K The Annerville 10K road race promoted by Clonmel Athletic Club took place today in Clonmel on the warmest day so far this year and it was great to see such a good entry of 259 athletes competing in such demanding conditions.
The Race Headquarters at Colaiste Chitinn was a hive of activity from early morning as the race was brought forward to 1.15pm start due to unforeseen circumstances. Competition was keen as a group of four athletes set the pace, Danny Smith (Ballynonty AC) Kevin Moore (Dundrum AC) Colm Turner (Limerick AC) and the eventual winner Niall McCormack (Clonmel AC). In such demanding conditions this group were still together as they went through 5K in 16 mins 43 secs and it was just on the first of the inclines after the halfway mark that Niall went to the front and increased the pace and as they approach Loreto Convent he had moved clear of the chasing pack. Niall kept that pace going all the way to come home a very convincing winner in 33 mins 13 secs. This was a great win by Niall who showed a return to good form with this performance. Niall was 3rd in last year’s race. Then we had Kevin Moore (Dundrum AC) who is also running very well at present having won the Brendan Kinane 5K last Wednesday night in Dundrum. He held off the strong challenge of Danny Smith (Ballynonty AC0 to finish 2nd in 33 mins 31 secs with Danny 2 secs adrift. Colm Turner (Limerick AC) also ran very well in such conditions when finishing 4th in 33 mins 47 secs. We then had William Stephens (Coolquill AC) coming through to finish 5th in 34 mins 6 secs. The Master Men Awards were won by the following athletes : Dermot Ryan (West Waterford AC) 1st over 40 in 35:37 with Nigel O Flaherty (Clonmel AC) 2nd over 40 in 35:51, Dermot Hayes (Dundrum AC) 1st over 45 in 36:56 with Peter Madden (Templemore AC) 2nd in 37:16, Bernard Feery (Fethard AC) was 1st over 50 in 38:11 with Billy Walsh (Tallow) 2nd in 41:03, Richard Meehan (Ballynonty AC) was 1st over 55 in 44 mins 45 secs with Billy Prout (Clonmel AC) 2nd in 46:50, Tom Halpin (Ballynonty AC) was 1st over 60 in 42:01 and Eamonn Crowley 1st over 65 in 53:49.
The Women’s race was also competitive and her we had Margaret Danagher (Templemore AC) running a great race when coming home a very convincing winner in 40 mins 21 secs with Keeley Tideswell (Clonmel AC) 2nd in 41 mins 58 secs and Anne Marie Boland (Clonmel AC) 3rd in 42 mins. Linda Grogan (Dundrum AC) was 4th in 42 mins 18 secs with Phil Ryan (Ballynonty AC) 5th in 42 mins 28 secs.
