Angela McCann of Clonmel AC wins the Half-Marathon in the European Masters Championships

On Sunday the 15th of May, Angela McCann of Clonmel AC won the F40 category in the Half-Marathon in the European Masters Road Championships in Thionville in North-East France. Angela, who was a recent winner of the Limerick City Half-Marthon in April ran the 21.1 km course in a personal best time of 79:36.

From Clonmel AC.......Thionville in North-East France was the venue last weekend for the European Masters Road Championships. In the Half Marathon Angela McCann was making her debut in these Championships. Angela had targeted this race over the past couple of months and all her training was geared for this one event. Her preparations for the 13.1 miles were ideal as she competed in the Dungarvan 10 miler last January where she ran 59 mins 50 secs. Then in March she ran 59 mins 19 secs for the famous Ballycotton 10 mile. In April she turned her attention to the All Ireland Masters Ladies 10k title which she won convincingly in the Phoenix Park in 37 mins 27secs where conditions were demanding. In early May she won the Ladies Half Marathon in Limerick in 81 mins 11 secs.  Angela won the European Masters Half-Marathon in a time of 79 mins 36 secs......what a way to win a European title than with a Personal Best.

In some of the other categories, Tracy Guilfoyle of Kilnaboy AC finished 3rd in the F45 section in 89:12.

In the mens race, Michael Byrne finished 2nd in the M50 category in 73:39 while Patrick O'Shea ran 81:10 to take the M60 bronze.
