From the organisers....On Saturday, July 7th 2018 at 2pm the Cahir Half Marathon and Team Relay will once again take a picturesque tour of 13.1 miles of the delights of Cahir town and the surrounding countryside in Co. Tipperary.  In the fourth year of the event, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. are delighted to welcome you to this historical town.

The ever popular Half Marathon event is on the same lovely route as last year. A lovely flat course with an overall height gain of only 70 metres. It is the perfect course for your first half marathon or for those seasoned runners who are looking to get a new PB.  It is also a perfect race for those training for any marathons in Autumn 2018.

For the second year running, we will again have the extremely popular Relay event.  This proved to be a huge hit last year!  Two team mates each run 6.5 miles, with the clock ticking it will be a joint effort to get their best possible time.

This year proceeds from the race will be used to support the wonderful work of South Tipperary Hospice Movement and also Aspect Autism Day Support which is based in Cahir.

Notice...The Brendan Kinane 5k, Dundrum, Tipperary - Wed 2nd May 2018

Following the sudden death of club member Brendan Kinane in Dec 2015, the members of Dundrum AC in Tipperary organised a 5km road race in his honour in May 2016. After the success of the inaugural race, it has been decided to make the race an annual event.

The race starts at 8pm on Wednesday the 2nd of May 2018.

Everyone is always well looked after in Dundrum with arrays of buns and treats to be savoured post-race, this is more than just a race. Again this year Ballydoyle Racing have come on board as the main sponsor.

In terms of 5k courses, this is one of the fastest in Tipperary and Munster.

The current course record of 15:12 (Coillte 5k for juniors) is held by Darren Dunne. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 1st in the Over Categories for both Males and Females. The entry fee on the night is €10 and there is chip timing by Premier Timing.

The village of Dundrum is located about 9 miles to the NW of Cashel.

Course Preview.......You can find a full preview of the course with maps and photos HERE

More info...The 3rd annual running of the BK5K will take place on May 2nd at 8pm in Dundrum village, Co Tipperary. The race is in memory of former club member Brendan Kinane. It is chipped timed and is €10 per person or €20 per family (using one race number).

This really is a "Premier" 5k in Munster and a definite course for anybody seeking a 5k PB. Among the best fast 5k races in Ireland 🇮🇪. It's a the perfect race to kick start the summer. Great course, atmosphere and perhaps most importantly the fantastic spread of tea, coffee, sandwiches and desserts after the race which definitely standout from other races.

It's a race not to be missed and is suitable for the most competitive athlete to the family with the buggy just wanting to enjoy a nice 5k. So young or old, walk, jog or run, this is the perfect 5k. There will be km markers along with 800m and 400m signs to go. Huge crowd expected with a fantastic turnout the first two years.

Proceeds from this year's race will go towards the development of the track at the Scout Hall. We have seen a huge increase in numbers, with Juveniles, Fit4Life and Senior athletes in the last couple of years and the facility is great for training with some improvements needed. Looking forward to seeing you all.

From Dundrum AC....The race is in memory of a great club mate of ours and athlete that is fondly remembered by everyone for many clubs throughout Tipperary.

The following words are from our Chairman John Moore shortly after Brendan’s passing.
On Wednesday 16th December 2015 the sudden death of Brendan Kinane stunned everyone that knew him. I first met Brendan in 2006 after he had returned from Japan where he had spent over a decade working in the Horse racing scene.

I remember seeing him at our annual summer road race in Dundrum which he was taking part in. Word had it that this lightly built lad was training with some of his Ballydoyle colleagues in Clonmel. Not long after he had joined our athletic club in Dundrum.

Brendan brought great enthusiasm to the club and quickly immersed himself in all club activities. His responsible work in the world famous Ballydoyle racehorse training facility where one wrong move could cost millions of euros meant he was meticulous in whatever he did.

He quickly immersed himself in the training sessions with the club. He took one of our younger athletes the then sixteen year old Kevin Moore under his wing and they had many training sessions together. He organised training sessions with his great friend Michael Ryan along the roads around Cashel for the club athletes based in that area. His outgoing personality meant he built up a great relationship with athletes from all clubs.

Road running was his favourite discipline and he took great pride especially this year when he beat some established performers in the over fifty category. But above all Brendan's great legacy in the few short years we new him was what he contributed to the club. His work in laying out cross country and road race courses for competition when the club hosted races was a huge help to the club. He was also available whenever asked to assist at our twice weekly juvenile training sessions. He was the driving force along with Michael Ryan to honour the people with a presentation who kept the clubs annual summer road race going every year for the past thirty years last July. He took on the role of club PRO and only filed his last report on the County Senior and Junior Cross Country on the eve of his death.

His popularity was there to be seen at the removal of his remains to Knockavilla Church and burial the following day in Ardmayle Cemetery where his work colleagues from the horse racing family, athletic community, neighbours and friends were in attendance. The funeral cortege was met with a guard of honour on arrival to Knockavilla church organised by Dundrum Athletic Club and joined by other athletic clubs from the county, the local Knockavilla Kickams GAA club and the Dundrum Badminton Club where Brendan was also a member.

Sincere sympathy from Dundrum Athletic Club and all other athletic clubs in the County also from Tipperary Athletics County Board to Brendan's wife Ruth daughter Ava mother Rose sister Ann her husband John and the extended Kinane and Stapleton families. Thanks for the memories Brendan may you rest in peace.
J.M.

Clare : Results of the Kilnaboy 10 mile - Sun 8th Apr 2018

As can be seen from the chart above, the Sonny Murphy Memorial 10 mile road race in Kilnaboy has a long history and the race this year on the 8th of April was its 34th edition.

In the early years, the numbers hovered around the 100 mark until the race got a boost in the late 2000's from being part of the Munster 10 mile Spring Classics Series and the general running boom. With the demise of the series, the numbers fell back until it became part of a popular Clare race series in 2015. It is now no longer a part of that series and the numbers have dropped a lot.

From Clonmel AC... The 4th race of the Morrison BMW 6K series took place tonight in dry conditions and once again we had a very good entry. Once again, the Club is indebted to Morrison BMW for their very generous sponsorship. Competition was very keen throughout all the Divisions and the majority of the final placings were only decided tonight. Indeed, great credit must go to all the team Captains for encouraging all their teams to compete and it was just brilliant.

Tonight’s race was won by James Sullivan (James Sullivan Running Programmes) in 21 mins 55 secs, 2nd was Nigel O Flaherty (Road Rage) in 22 mins 11secs and 3rd was Michael O Sullivan (Mac Attack) in 22 mins 17 secs. The top three women finishers tonight were 1st Dympna Ryan (Where is the finish) in 23 min 12 secs, 2nd was Clare Annan (Pedal to the Metal) in 24 mins 9 secs and 3rd was Aine Roche (Team IP Physical Therapy A) in 24 mins 58 secs.

At this stage the Club would like to thank Tess Kiely of Colaiste Cheitinn for all her help, the Loreto Convent, the Gardai and the Civil Defence for all their help and assistance and to our many stewards for helping to make the whole event such a success, a big thank you to everyone who made this series of races such a success, especially the Team Captains.

In the team competition, here are the top 3 teams as well as the best team (lowest score) on tonight’s performance that finished outside the top 3, they also win a prize.

The Presentation of Prizes will take place in Mulcahy’s Gladstone Street from 9pm on next Wednesday night, April 18th, where there will be food and music. A great night is guaranteed, and ALL the above-mentioned teams will collect their hard-earned prizes. The 4th race of this series takes place next Wednesday night at 7pm where athletes can collect their numbers at Colaiste Cheitinn from 6pm onwards. Athletes can wear their watches for this race as the race format is Lucky Dip. In this race we will have pre-selected finishing positions and athletes who finish in these positions will win a prize and these prizes will also be presented in Mulcahy’s Gladstone Street that night after 9pm. We would encourage as many members of the victorious teams to come along next Wednesday night and collect their awards, the more the merrier.

Cahir RUN4FUN 4 mile, this year’s race takes place on Wednesday 25th April at 7.30pm in Cahir where the race headquarters is Morrison BMW showrooms. This year’s race will raise funds for the Tomas Kelly Fund, a very worthy cause. So, mark the 25th April in your Diary.

Notice...Castleisland 10 mile race & 5k run in Co,Kerry - Sun 22nd Apr 2018

The annual 10 mile road race & 5km run in Castleisland, Co.Kerry is coming up on Sunday the 22nd of April 2018...

The 10 mile race costs €21.40 while the 5k race costs €11.40. You can enter online HERE

Please note that the race starts at 10am.

Considering its location, it is sure to attract a lot of runners from Kerry, west Limerick and the general west Munster region. Castleisland is only a short distance from Killarney and Tralee and the race should be of particular interest to runners there.

This race is organised by An Ríocht Athletic Club, one of the major clubs in the county.

You can enter and find a lot more info on the race website... http://castleisland10mile.wordpress.com/

It's worth mentioning also that money raised from the road race will be used for maintenance of the outdoor track in Castleisland. It is the ONLY 400 metre track in Kerry and is used by athletes from clubs in Kerry and west Limerick. If children are going to be involved in the sport then they need access to proper local facilities like this. Perhaps for that reason alone, this race is worth supporting.

Previews....A preview of the new 10 mile course is up on the race website. The 5 km course is HERE

From West Waterford AC........It's that time of year again when we turn our attention to the summer series which we are doing now for the 24th time. Many of the races have remained the same for much of these 24 years with some new ones added as time has elapsed, As we know with many things you can't sit still and you have to change and evolve and update as time goes by to help freshen things up as we go along. With that said we are always trying to loom at new ideas while always trying to keep our core traditional events unchanged as much a possible for as we all know tradition is important.

Last year as you all know we changed our overall series sponsor to Intersport Elverys  bringing together a power house sports retail name in  the industry in Ireland along with an athletics house hold brand in Asics. So looking forward the series more or less keeps the same format, we will include a brand new race bringing the total of events now to 12, the only road racing series in the country with this many races. We are introducing a brand new race The Ballinameela 5k which will slot in as the final race in the series for 2018, this event we are very excited about with a brilliant community spirit out in Ballinameela and a super fast course also it will round off the event in great style.

The 12 race program will be held over the summer months from April to August with a diverse programme of events which holds something in it for everyone, both distance and terrain wise. We will have some other slight changes also this year with Clashmore changing to a new 5k course, Ras  Na Rinne will also see a change to the Cunnigar leg of the course.

We are looking forward to meeting all our old friends throughout the summer months and hopeful we make also make many new acquaintances along the way as well.

Notice...Clonmel AC 6km Road Race Series...Wed 21st & 28th March & Wed 4th, 11th & 18th April 2018

Clonmel AC 6K Road Race Series...The Club is once again promoting the Clonmel AC 6K Road Race Series sponsored by Morrison Mini, Cahir. The Club would like to thank Morrison Motors of Cahir and especially Gary Morrison for their very generous sponsorship.

Colaiste Cheitinn, the Mall is the race headquarters for each race and numbers can be collected there from 5.45pm on all nights with a 7pm start.

Now is the time to be organising your team of five athletes with the best three performances (athletes who are closest to their Predictions) to count each night.

The three races on March 28th and April 4th and 11th will see athletes predict their time each night when they enter and collect their number. They must then run the course without a watch or IPods.

If an athlete is caught wearing a watch or IPod, their team will be penalised.

This sort of competition allows every athlete to set their own pace and regardless of where they finish in the race they can all help their team to win the competition.

This is an event where you the athlete set the target, you decide every night what your finishing time is and then you have to run as close to that time to help your team. For instance you could predict 30 mins for the 6k and then run the race in 30 mins 1 second and you score one point for your team. Then you have another athlete on your team who predicts his finishing time as 21 mins and runs the race in 21 mins 31 secs, he score 31 points for the team. The three athletes that score the lowest points will count on your team, it is not based on your finishing position it is based on your time and what you predicted.
