After a successful 6k race series last Spring, Clonmel Athletic Club are holding another 6k series in April of 2014 with Morrison BMW of Cahir coming on board as the main sponsor.
Morrison BMW, Cahir 6k Inter Firm Road Race Series...
From Clonmel AC....The Club is once again promoting the Morrison BMW, Cahir 6k Inter Firm Road Race Series. The Club would like to thank Morrison Motors and especially Gary Morrison for their very generous sponsorship.
This year the races gets underway on Wednesday 26th March at 6.15pm with a practice run over the route while the event itself gets underway on Wednesday 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd of April. Then on Wednesday 23rd of April we hold the Lucky Dip Format race.
The route can be seen at http://munsterraceroutes.blogspot.ie/2013/02/tipperary001.html
This is a team event with 5 athletes on each team and the best three times to count each night, so you, the athlete, set your own target. For athletes who are not on teams and would like to compete, just send you name to Niall O Sullivan at niallfosullivan1@eircom.net and we will organise teams from such entries.
Practise run on Wednesday 26th March...here athletes can wear their watches. They must also wear a High Viz. Now is the time to be organising your team of five athletes with the best three performances (athletes who are closest to their Predictions) to count each night. Please note that we will be leaving groups off at 6.15 pm onwards.
The race headquarters is the Vocational School, the Mall each night and entries will be taken from 6 to 6.55pm. Please note that athletes are asked NOT to leave any belongings in the School as the School will close at 7pm each night, just come and collect your number.
The first three races, April 2nd, 9th and 16th, will see athletes predict their time each night when they enter and then they must run the course without a watch or Ipods. If an athlete is caught wearing a watch or IPod, their team will be penalised.
This sort of competition allows every athlete to set their own pace and regardless of where they finish in the race they can all help their team to win the competition. This is an event where you the athlete set the target, you decide every night what your finishing time is and then you have to run as close to that time to help your team. For instance you could predict 30 mins for the 6k and then run the race in 30 mins 1 second and you score one point for your team. Then you have another athlete on your team who predicts his finishing time as 21 mins and runs the race in 21 mins 31 secs, he score 31 points for the team. The three athletes that score the lowest points will count on your team, it is not based on your finishing position it is based on your time and what you predicted.
Last year’s event was a brilliant success with 71 teams competing, which saw 304 athletes compete the 1st night, 293 athletes the 2nd night and 276 athletes the 3rd night. This event caters for all levels and last year we had athletes running the 6k from 20 mins 22 secs to 44 mins 3 secs.
Also note that the 6k series counts as part of the Joe Grinsell 100k challenge.
The Lucky Dip Race will take place on Wednesday 24th April. The Presentation of Prizes will take place in the Posthouse, Gladstone Street on Wednesday 24th April at 9.30pm where refreshments and music will be provided. For further details please contact Niall O Sullivan at 086 1660888.
