O' Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordan Memorial 5-miles

The second race of the 2015 OutfieldSports.ie Three Counties Challenge saw 195 runners line up for the O' Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordan Memorial race in Portlaw on Friday evening last. This was the seventh running of this very popular event and the third year in which it formed part of the five-race series organised by Carrick-on-Suir AC. The heavy rain during the day cleared just in time for the race and runners enjoyed good conditions for the five mile challenge.

The course which was used for the first time last year received very favourable reviews and again produced some fast times. Victory in the men's race went to Clonmel AC's Kevin Maunsell who led for practically the entire route and finished with a time of 24:55. David Mansfield from Clonliffe Harriers had taken the first race of this year's series in Faugheen and again ran a fine race to finish in second place in 25:15. Carrick AC runner, Brian Murphy, was close behind in third place, clocking 25:24.

The ladies' race was won in fine style by Clonmel AC's Claire Annan who broke the 30-minute barrier with a superb time of 29:54. Sylvia Malone from Waterford AC took the runner-up prize with Anna-Leigh Hore from Kilmore AC taking third place.

Carrick AC would like to thank all who helped make this such a successful event. Thanks to O' Neill Pharmacy, Portlaw, for once again kindly sponsoring the race and to Alan Treacy, Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir for the continued sponsorship of the overall series. The Portlaw branch of the Red Cross once again excelled with their race organisation. It has been through the dedication and hard work of Brian Nugent and his Red Cross colleagues that the race has become so firmly established on the road-race calendar.

A big thank-you also to all of the race stewards who ensured the safety of the runners and to all who helped with race registration, timing, results and post-race refreshments at the Forge Bar.

The third race of the series will be the Deadman's 5-miles in Carrick-on-Suir on Friday, 5th June at 7:30pm.
