Report from Clonmel AC......Great performances at the Barlo Motor Group race 3
We again had a brilliant entry of 168 athletes on what was a good night for running, cold but dry and it was great to some impressive performances, indeed from week one it is great looking down through the results to see athletes improving at all levels. We will do a report on the performances to date in a later report. As regards the times tonight anyone wearing numbers 1 to 99 should have gone off with the first group and likewise athletes wearing numbers 100 to 199 should have gone off with group Two and Group Three was for all athletes who were wearing numbers 200 plus. I say this because I then deducted 20 seconds off any athlete in Group Two and I took 40 seconds off anyone in Group Three as we had stagger starts. It is up to the athlete to stay in the Group that their number is for.
The race format for tonight's race was again Lucky Dip and the Lucky winners were as follows: Mark Corcoran, Damien O Keeffe, Gerry Burgess, Peter Kiely, Michael O Sullivan, Paul Higgins, Michelle Lonergan, Pat Tobin, Caitriona O Flynn, Bernie Walsh, Yvonne Doheny, Carmel Long and the Lucky winner of the use of a New Car from the Barlo Motor Group was Catherine Delahunty.
Tonight's race was won by Colm Ryan in 14 mins 34 secs with Gareth McGlinchey 2nd in 15 mins 9 secs and Lar Martin 3rd in 15 mins 11 secs. The top three Women finishers were Anne Marie Boland 1st in 16 mins 31 secs, 2nd Kealey Tideswell 16 mins 33 secs and 3rd Linda Grogan 16 mins 38 secs.
Just a reminder that Race 6, the Charity Race, of this year's series, on February 17th, is in aid of SERT (South East Radiotherapy Trust) , a very worthy cause. Report from Clonmel AC......Barlo Motor Group Race 2 report...Near record entry at 4K race
The 2nd race of the Barlo Motor Group 4K series took place on the 20th of January in reasonably good conditions and there were 193 athletes competing, which is brilliant. The record entry at the moment stands at 198 set on the 5th November 2014 while the 12th November 2014 equals last night's entry.
It is brilliant to see such an entry as this series of races caters for all levels of fitness. The main thing is to train at your own pace and also run at your own pace and we saw last night athletes making great progress on all levels right throughout the race. Looking at the results, please note that we allocated your place on your finishing time and please take into account that we had a staggered start with Group One athletes going off at zero seconds, Group Two going off at minus 28 secs and Group Three going off at minus 48 secs.
It was great last night to see everyone wearing a High Viz, No High Viz No Run is our Rule for your Safety. Please note that we will start the race at 7pm each night so allow time to register, so come as early as possible.
Last night's race Format was Lucky Dip and here we had Pre Selected Finishing positions drawn before the race and the lucky winners were Liam Morrissey, Bobby Jarabek, Vincent McHugh, Adrian Lonergan, Liam Cooney, Michelle Lonergan, Shane Jackson, Siobhan Roche, Tracey Gibson, Norma Sorohan, Claire Wilkinson and Helen Gillman. Jason Burke was the Lucky winner of the use of a New car from our sponsors, Barlo Motor group for the week.
In last night's race the top 3 men finishers were Jimmy Boland in 14 mins 2 secs, Colm Ryan 14 mins 35 secs and Michael J Ryan 14 mins 49 secs. The top 3 women finishers were Clare Annan 15 mins 18 secs, 2nd was Aine Roche in 16 mins 8 secs and 3rd Linda Grogan in 16 mins 37 secs.
The Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their car park as race Headquarters and the Civil Defence for looking after First Aid. The Club would also like to thank our many stewards who helped at taking entries and ensuring the route was safe for all the participants.
The Club has also decided to award kms to anyone on a team that helps with taking entries, stewarding at the following events, our 4k races, our 6k races, the Annerville 10K, the Boston Scientific Half Marathon and our St Stephen's Day 4 miler. We are finding it increasingly hard to get stewards for our events and without our stewards these events couldn't take place. So hopefully this new initiative will encourage athletes to give us a helping hand at any of the above mentioned events. To qualify you must let us know a week in advance of such help, coming along on the day or night of the event and offering help won't do.
