The Colligan Hill league started off on the 13th of March in Colligan Woods to the North-West of Dungarvan in West Waterford. People have a choice of 3 routes and on the first night, they got 78 runners. On the second night, the number had dropped a bit to 68, still a very good number considering the time of year and the early start.

Three Counties Race Series...Waterford/Tipperary/Kilkenny...Apr-Aug 2013
The Outfield Sports 3 Counties Challenge is a popular race series which runs from April to August every year. This year, the organisers Carrick-on-Suir AC have included an extra race to make it 5 in total covering the three counties of Waterford, Tipperary and Kilkenny.
Location of race series.....within easy driving distance of Waterford, Dungarvan, Clonmel, Cashel, Thurles and Kilkenny.
Here is some additional info from Carrick-on-Suir AC.......
Big Changes at 3 Counties!
Carrick on Suir A.C.’s 3 Counties Challenge has firmly established itself in the South East Running Calendar since its inception in 2007, with the series growing from a single race with 100 runners to last year’s successful 4 race series with close on a thousand participants. One of the keys to their success has been the clubs ability to change and improve the series, and 2013 will continue that trend with a new race (Now making the 3 Counties challenge a 5 Race series), a new venue and some new sponsors.
Because of the expansion, the Series will now start on Friday 26th April with the first running of the Faugheen 5Km Road race, kindly sponsored by Bobby Fitzgerald Accountants. This flat course will be held on the famous Faugheen 50 Motor bike circuit in the pretty Tipperary village, and we are sure it will become a runner’s favourite very quickly.
This will be followed closely by the second new addition in the series, the O’Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordon Portlaw 5 Mile Road race on Friday 8th May. This race has been organised by the Portlaw Red Cross for several years, with the help of Carrick A.C., so it was a natural progression to include this fantastic 5 Mile Co. Waterford course in the Series. Feedback from runners in the last few years has been extremely positive about this course, and we think many of the series participants will be eyeing this race for a P.B.!
The third race in the series will see us return to County Tipperary and the ever popular Carraig Hotel Deadman’s 5 Road race on Friday 7th June. Now in its eighth year, this race starts outside the beautiful Ormond Castle in the Centre of Carrick on Suir, taking in a scenic 5 Mile run around the Deadman’s Boreen (hence the name!) and finishes on a lovely straight stretch passing the tree-lined Town Park.
The penultimate Race in the Series sees us visit County Waterford again, and the picturesque village of Rathgormack for the Auto Power Rathgormack 5 on July 12th. This challenging, undulating course is an ever popular addition to the series, thanks mainly to the beautiful scenery of the Comeragh Mountains and the superb home cooking in the Hiking Centre after the Race.
Finally, the Series will end in County Kilkenny with the Morris Oil Piltown 10Km Road race on Friday 2nd August. Another scenic trek, the race starts in the grounds of the Kildalton Agricultural College, winding its way down by the Lake and tree-lined avenue before a circuit of the flat roads around Piltown. Another firm favourite in the series, 2013 will be the sixth running of this race.
The club is delighted to welcome back local specialist running store Outfield Sports of Carrick on Suir as the Series sponsor for the Seventh year (now promoting its new website, hence the outfieldsports.ie 3 Counties Challenge), and is delighted that International Sports Brand Adidas are also involved as title sponsors. We are very grateful to our sponsors for their continued support and it is great to see the same names supporting our series year after year. As usual, the message from the club is for all of the series runners to return the support to these businesses who have been good enough to help us, despite the harsh economic climate.
The Prize fund for the series will be in excess of €10,000, with €200 First prize for the Men’s and Women’s races and prizes in all the usual age categories. There will also be a Team Prize at each race as well as spot prizes all the way down the field. There will also be a race souvenir for anyone running 4 out of 5 races, as well as a €25 voucher for Adidas Running Footwear at Outfield Sports.
Pre Entry can be availed of at www.runireland.com , and up to date information will be available on the club website at www.carrickroadrunners.ie and on our club Facebook page.
Despite all the changes this year there are a few things will remain the same:- A race series that is ideal for new runners to progress from 5km to 10 km through the summer, well stewarded, accurately measured courses, good grub after the race and the famous Carrick AC welcome to all our runners. Looking forward to meeting all our friends (New & Old) this summer in the sunny South East!

Results of the Tralee Half and Full Marathon...Sat 16th Mar 2013
The Tralee International Marathon got off to a fine start with blue skies and sunshine greeting the runners as they lined up for the inaugural event. Roughly 1300 runners took part between the full Marathon and the Half-Marathon.
The route for the full Marathon headed north-west to Ardfert before heading south-west towards Fenit and then back east towards Tralee. Overall, it was suprisingly tough with a lot of small hills along the way.
Most of the roads were not closed although this really didn't cause much of an issue except perhaps for the section between Fenit and Tralee. There were so many runners on the road that the traffic that was there wasn't going anywhere fast. I'm not sure if any of this traffic could have been diverted but it did have a feel of there being no traffic management along this section.
The course mile markers were clearly visible with most of them in the correct spot. However, the ones from about 15 to 18 miles were certainly out, some probably by as much as 200 metres.
The finish was as good as you could get in any Marathon as it approached Tralee along the canal and great support on both side close to the finish line.
No doubt some things could have been approved upon but for the first event, it seemed to go very well. With the sun shining, it really is a very scenic route with all of the mountians along the Dingle peninsula clearly visible. Unless you are from the area, the area to the north-west of Tralee is probably one that most people won't have visited and it's really nice.
At present, there are no shortage of Half-Marathons and full Marathons in the country. With this full being in March, it seems to have have found it's own niche in that it's not really clashing with anything else. Whether it loses some of it's novelty in future years remains to be seen but at least it got off to a fine start.

Race notice...Boherbue-Kiskeam 4 mile, NW Cork - Mon 1st Apr 2013
Looking ahead to some more races coming up in the near future, this one might be of interest to anyone west or north of Cork City, in Kerry or south and west Limerick. The Jack O'Keeffe 4 mile road race is in North-West Cork on Easter Monday, the 1st of April.
This 4 mile road race starts in Boherbue and finishes in the village of Kiskeam. As you can see from the map below, it's a central location for a lot of people...
The race is being organised by Gneeveguilla AC, one of the largest athletic clubs in Kerry. The entry fee is a flat €15 on the day...i.e. there are no online entries with additional costs. There is also a huge array of prizes on offer and these are usually in the form of vouchers for a local co-op and are pretty generous.
There will be the usual refreshments of tea. coffee. sandwiches, etc afterwards as well. More details closer to the date.

Race notice...Castleisland 10 mile road race - Sun 21st Apr 2013
This is the second year of the Lee Strand Kingdom Come 10 mile road race in Castleisland, Co.Kerry. Considering it's location, it's sure to attract a lot of runners from Kerry, west Limerick and the general west Munster region. Castleisland is only a short distance from Killarney and Tralee and the race should be of particular interest to runners there.
This race is organised by An RÃocht Athletic Club, one of the major clubs in the county.
Sunday 21 April 2013...Event Start Time: 11.am
Bibs can be collected anytime from the 1st April from the clubhouse.
Prizes.....
1st 6 Men, 1st 6 Women, 1st 2 Junior Men, 1st 2 Junior Women
Masters...1st 3 Men & Women 0.40, 1st 2 Men & Women 0.50, 1st 2 Men 0.60, 1st 2 Women 0.55

Post Race Event: Live Entertainment, Challenges, Stalls promoting their produce and much much more.
Entry on the day for the 10 Miler will be €25.00
Entries.......you can enter online HERE or download the entry form HERE and post it in.
It's worth mentioning also that money raised from the road race will be used for maintenance of the outdoor track in Castleisland. It is the ONLY 400 metre track in Kerry and is used by athletes from clubs in Kerry and west Limerick. If children are going to be involved in the sport then they need access to proper local facilties like this. Perhaps for that reason alone, this race is worth supporting.
