The 2 Johnnies South Tipp Women's Mini Marathon 8K was held in Cahir on Saturday 20th of September 2025. 

There were 402 finishers this year. This compares to 395 in 2024 and 437 in 2023.

Notice : Cahir Half-Marathon in Tipperary - Sat 7th July 2018

The Cahir Half-Marathon in South Tipperary is coming up on Saturday the 7th of July 2018 and should be of interest to a lot of runners. Located just off the M8 motorway, it's a very easy venue to get to.

Entries... The half-marathon costs €40 to enter and you can enter online HERE

There is also a relay option for a team of two people and this costs €50.

Please note that the closing date for entries at the current price is Sunday 24th June. After this date the entry fees will increase so make sure to register in time. Final closing date will be Saturday, 30th June. You will not be able to enter on the day.

Each participant of the event (Half marathon and Relay) will receive their very own Cahir Half Marathon & Relay buff. Colour and logo shown below....

From the organisers....On Saturday, July 7th 2018 at 2pm the Cahir Half Marathon and Team Relay will once again take a picturesque tour of 13.1 miles of the delights of Cahir town and the surrounding countryside in Co. Tipperary.  In the fourth year of the event, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. are delighted to welcome you to this historical town.

The ever popular Half Marathon event is on the same lovely route as last year. A lovely flat course with an overall height gain of only 70 metres. It is the perfect course for your first half marathon or for those seasoned runners who are looking to get a new PB.  It is also a perfect race for those training for any marathons in Autumn 2018.

For the second year running, we will again have the extremely popular Relay event.  This proved to be a huge hit last year!  Two team mates each run 6.5 miles, with the clock ticking it will be a joint effort to get their best possible time.

This year proceeds from the race will be used to support the wonderful work of South Tipperary Hospice Movement and also Aspect Autism Day Support which is based in Cahir.

This 4 mile road race is coming up in Cahir, South Tipperary on Wednesday, the 26th Apr 2017...

With it being so close to the M8 motorway, it should attract runners from a wide catchment area.

Directions...Cahir is located in the south of Tipperary, just off the M8 motorway from Cork to Dublin...

 

If you are coming from the motorway, follow all the signs for Cahir. This will take you into the centre of the town and this T-junction shown below. Cahir Castle is about 300m to your left but you need to turn right here and drive up the hill. The start line is outside Morrisons Garage which you will see on the left.

Course......The 4 mile race takes in a loop to the south and west of the town...

Race HQ is Morrisons Garage with the race starting and finishing just outside.

From Clonmel AC...Cahir RUN4Fun in aid of South Tipp Hospice

On Wednesday 26th April all roads lead to Cahir for our very popular Cahir Run4Fun 4 mile road race at 7.30pm. This year the event will raise much needed funds for South Tipp Hospice. This event is promoted by Clonmel Athletic Club and sponsored by Morrison Mini Cahir. Last year’s event was a brilliant success with 365 athletes competing. This event over 4 miles caters for all levels of ability from Walkers to joggers to athletes.

For every participant there will be a donation made to South Tipp Hospice, so the more participants the more funds this worthy cause will benefit from.

The race will start on the Clogheen road outside Morrison BMW Garage and the athletes will proceed out the Clogheen road turning right before Cahir Golf Club. From here they will proceed for about 2k to the Mitchelstown Road where they will turn right and head for Cahir with the race finishing outside Morrison BMW premises.

There will be Cash Prizes for the following categories:
1st 2 Senior Men, 1st 2 Master Men 0/40 and over.
1st 2 Senior Women, 1st 2 Master Women 0/35 and over.

There will also be a lot of Cash Prizes allocated in an Open Draw on finishing positions during the race. This type of competition will see prizes allocated to athletes right down throughout the race, a prize for every 12 finishers. Among these prizes there will be a prize of €100 as well as many other Cash Prizes. One prize per athlete. 

The Entry fee will be €10 and entries will be taken on the night at Morrison BMW, Cahir from 6pm onwards. 

This race has an Athletic Ireland Permit.

There will also be Post race refreshments. This event will be chip timed by Premier Timing Systems.

From Clonmel AC...The 4th promotion of the Morrison BMW sponsored Cahir RUN4Fun 4 mile road race, promoted by Clonmel Athletic Club, took place last night in ideal running conditions with 365 athletes competing. This year's race nominated Charity was the Cahir Day Care Centre.

The race started outside Morrison BMW showrooms and Nigel O Flaherty (Clonmel AC) was the first man home.

The Master awards winners for the Men were Kenny Curran (Ballynonty AC) who was 1st over 40 in 22 mins 32 secs with Dermot Hayes (Dundrum AC) 2nd in 22 mins 33 secs.

The Women's race was also very competitive with victory going to Clare Annan of Clonmel AC in 24 mins 3 secs.

At the Presentation of the Prizes, Nicola Maunsell Vice Chairperson of Clonmel AC thanked the Garda, Civil Defence and the many stewards who ensured the whole event was a great success. Gary Morrison of Morrison BMW Cahir also thanked the many people who helped in any way to make the event such a success and in particular all his staff for all their hard work over the past couple of days. He was also delighted to have the Cahir Day Care Centre as the chosen Charity this year.

Then we had the Special draw where for every 12 athletes that crossed the finishing line one of them received a voucher and this was done by having Pre selected finishing positions drawn while the race was in progress. So the prizes were evenly distributed throughout the whole race and everyone had an equal chance of winning. This is the only event in Ireland that distributes the prizes in this way and the prizes varied from 100 Euros to 20 Euros.

From Clonmel AC... The 3rd promotion of the Cahir RUN4FUN took place in good dry conditions where athletes at times had to contend with strong winds. Still despite the inclement weather 367 athletes competed and it was a great spectacle. The last 800m downhill was very much welcome and athletes made good use of the section to record some very fast and impressive times.

The race was a great tussle between David Mansfield (Clonliffe harriers0 and the eventual winner, William Maunsell (Clonmel) as they were stride for stride for the majority of the race. it was only over the final 800m that William edged in front and kept the pace going to come home a worthy winner in 20 mins 12 secs with David a further 10 secs adrift. The tussle for 3rd place changed a lot over the final 3k with Mark Darmody (Clonmel) coming through to finish 3rd and win the over 40 award in 22 mins 6 secs. Dermot Hayes of Dundrum was 2nd over 40 in 2:47. For the record Michael J Ryan (Dundrum) was 4th in 22:29, Jimmy Boland (Clonmel) 5th in 22:32 and Colin Bradshaw (Dundrum) 6th in 22:36.

The Ladies race was also very competitive as both Aine Roche (Clonmnel0 and the eventual winner Dympna Ryan (Dundrum) were stride for stride for most of the race and it was only on the final downhill stretch that Dymphna pulled away to win in 24 mins 45 secs with Aine next in 24 mins 52 secs. Then we had Mary Louise Ryan (Moore Abbey Milers) 3rd in 25:20 with Keeley Tideswell (Clonmel) 4th in 25:38. Mary Molloy (Carrick on Suir) came trough to finish 5th and was 1st over 35 in 26:25 with Ausra Mackeviciute (Cashel Running Club) 6th in 27:01 and Tracy Culleton (Rosegreen) 2nd over 35 in 27:06.

Race report from Clonmel AC...The Morrison BMW sponsored RUN4FUN took place last night in over cast but dry conditions and this event was promoted by Clonmel Athletic Club. Once again this event had a fantastic entry of 436 athletes while last year's event attracted an entry of 458. With the entry for both events very similar it is interesting to look at the statistics. In last year's race we had 306 Women competing while this year's figure was 264. Last year we had 152 Men competing this year we had 172. This year's event saw a massive growth in the Ladies over 35 going up from 69 last year to 173 this year. In the Master Men we had 59 last year compared to 78 this year.

Also looking at the performances it is great to report that we have major progress. This year we had 105 athletes running faster than 30 minutes compared to 75 last year. This year we had 289 athletes running faster than 40 mins while last year it was 240. This year we had 353 athletes running faster than 50 mins compared to 296 last year while this year we had 384 athletes under 60 minutes compared to 352 athletes last year. We must take into account that it was a lot warmer last year than this year but still to see such a progression.

Back to the event, once again it was brilliantly marshalled throughout the route with the help of the Gardai and the many stewards with the Civil Defence covering the First Aid. Gary Morrison of Morrison BMW thanked everyone who helped in any way to make this event such a success and it was brilliant to raise funds for such a very worthy cause, Make a Wish Foundation.

In the race itself we had David Ryan of Clonmel who was 2nd last year, going one better this year to win in 20 mins 59 secs with Danny Smith (Ballynonty) 2nd in 21 mins 16 secs. The Master Men's awards were won by Declan Curley (Clonmel) 22 mins 18 secs and Derek Nolan (Clonmel) 23 mins 25 secs. In the Ladies race Dymphna Ryan (Dundrum) won a great race in 23 mins 57 secs with Carmel Fitzgibbon (Thurles Crokes) 2nd in 24 mins 32 secs while the Master Ladies awards were won by Angela McCann (Clonmel) 24 mins 53 secs and Catherine Rice (Clonmel) 26 mins 49 secs. 

The Prize winning format in this race also saw a Prize been presented to one in every 12 athletes that past the finishing line right throughout the field. This was decided before the race started where pre determined finishing positions were selected. Here the Lucky winners won prizes ranging from 100 Euros to 30 Euros and this part of the Presentation of the Prizes was a brilliant success as every recipient was cheered to the rafters. The 4 mile road race in Cahir, Co.Tipperary turned out to be a huge success with 300 runners and about 150 walkers taking part. In total, some €2,900 was raised for South Tipperary Hospice.
