Tipperary...Results of the 'Dave Fogarty' 4 mile road race - 12th June 2009

This 4 mile road race took place on Friday, the 12th of June. Race report & Results are provided by Tony Fogarty of Thurles Crokes AC.

Record Entry in Dave Fogarty 4 Mile Race , Thurles.

There was a record entry in the Annual Dave Fogarty 4 Mile Road Racein Thurles on Friday the 12th of June 2009 of 121. Clonliffe Harriersathlete, Sergio Ciobanu, won the Men’s race while Rosemary Ryan of Bilboa AC was first lady home.
Kicking off at bang on 8 bells saw a quick first mile in 4.45 whichsaw 5 athletes Sergio Ciobanu, Shane Mullaney, Christy O’Brien, DwayneFarrell and William Hughes taking up the running. As the pace hottedup towards the second mile, Sergio and Christy pulled a small gap onthe rest of the field with the chasing Shane followed closely by clubathlete William Hughes and Dwayne Farrell. As they pushed on again atthe school house just after the two mile mark, participanta at an open air mass were treated to a great spectacle while giving athletes a rousing reception as they passed. Turning for the main road saw Sergio openup a gap on junior Christy O’Brien with 3rd, 4th and 5th still up forgrabs with Tony Fogarty and Tom Carey in close contention behind. Passing the 3 mile, Sergio opened up a lead of 200m on Christy with Tony Fogarty coming through strong through the field with Shane Mullaney in close contention. Fifth place was still up for grabs with William Hughes, Dwayne Farrell and Tom Carey coming through strongly vying for the spot.

At the turn for the main road Sergio had a strong lead crossing theline with Christy little over 300m behind. Christy O’Brien ran a strong Thurles Crokes squad home in 2nd place in 20.24. Next in was Tony Fogarty 3rd having a flyer on home turf in 20.36 followed closelyby Shane Mullaney who was 4th in 20.44. William Hughes had a good run in 21.16 coming 7th with Vincent Molumby, the first junior home inclose contention in 21.24. Denis Shanahan performed consistently running 21.58.
Madeline Loughnane put in a strong performance coming 3rd in the ladies in 22.56. Declan Doherty 3rd over 35 ran in strongin 24.12 with Billy Phillips close behind in 24.22. Austin Ryan had a good run dipping under 25 minutes in 24.59. Con Corbett kept a coolhead coming 2nd in o/45 in 25.08. Mary & Jim Moloney, the in separable duo kept a strong pace going in 25.52. David Kenneallykeeping the flag flying running 25.54 with Denis Kenny close behind in26.02. Conor Stakelum, Noel McCarthy & Martina Ryan had great runs in26.16, 26.33, 27.00 minutes respectively Michael Dundon had anexcellent run winning the o/60 in 27.17. Serena Moloney ran 27.41leading the junior ladies home with Laura Loughnane 28.25 and her sister Nicola Loughnane having a tremendous performance running in 29.43. Dylan Grant had a super run on home ground running 28.26. Marathon man Bobby Farrell back in action showing them how it’s done running 29.02. Christy Tuohy was 1st over 55 running 29.54. Rebecca Power ran an excellent 4 miler in 31.02 with Marian Hughes in close contentio running 31.15 winning the o/50 category. Eileen Carey had a wonderful race running 31.38. Great to see Tony O'Meara & Jim Cumminsback on the scene running 32.05 & 32.40. Pat Bracken back in actionhaving a good action flying along in 32.41. Margaret Farrell 33.293rd over 50, Martina Kerrane 3rd over 35 33.45, Nuala Dorney 33.57 had terrific runs with Orla Donovan in tracking well in 34.03. Adi Bourke on a flyer ran 34.38 with Claire Lawless her club rival running 34.56. Gary Loughnane a cut above the rest ran 35.44 with Robert Farrell showing mum n dad that he can do it too running 36.46. ElainePhillips the surprise of the night showing running is easy running37.16. Breda O'Brien had a wonderful run in 37.53. Breda Kennedy had a super run in 39.05. Denise Stakelum performing excellently running in 41.39. Great running from all.

It was great to see somany athletes out on the course on the night. 43 senior and junior athletes took to the road around Leugh on Friday night last for whatturned out to be an enthralling spectacle for all those that watchedwith another 78 travelling from far and wide to participate in the main event as well as the walk. It was great to see. Well done to everyone behind the scenes who did trojan work & made this event a huge success on the night.
