Notice...Beaufort 10k road race, Kerry - Thurs 1st Jan 2015

The annual Beaufort 10k road race is coming up in Co.Kerry on Thursday the 1st of January at 12 noon. This race is organised by the Star of the Laune AC and is always a popular one with runners.

The entry fee is €15 and this include a dry-fit t-shirt.

There is also a bonus for breaking the course record of 29:45 set by John Lenihan.

Beaufort is about 5 miles west of Killarney. Look for the signpost on the N72 Killarney - Killorglin road.

Race HQ is at Beaufort Community Hall which is at the western side of Beaufort.

As for the course itself, there are a number of minor pulls but nothing of consequence. The first and last mile are largely flat while the rest of the course varies between 30 and 40m above sea level.

The view below shows the junction near the one mile mark with the Reeks in the distance visible for most of the race.

It's probably best described as a traditional club organised 10k race. No better way to kick off the year.

Notice...Clonmel 4 mile road race - Sun 26th Dec 2014

From the organisers Clonmel AC...
St Stephen’s Day 4 Mile Road Race
Preparations are well advanced for this year’s race which once again takes place on St Stephen’s Day at 12 noon. This race has grown in stature over the years and is now firmly fixed on everyone calendar over the festive season. This race over a good course caters for all levels of abilities and all ages. This year’s event will be chip timed by Premier Timing Systems. As well as the usual list of Prizes there will also be some great Spot Prizes for down the field finishers to be won, so come along and participate in a great Sporting event.

There will also be Post Race Refreshments in the Vocational School.
Entries will be taken at the Vocational School, the Mall from 10 am onwards. We would ask all local participants to come early and enter as we are expecting over 500 to participate in this year’s event. The entry Fee is 10 Euros.

This year’s race will start close to the Loreto Convent and proceeding down to Sir Thomas’s Bridge via the Coleville road and Kilganey.  At Sir Thomas’s Bridge it will proceed over to Ferryhouse where the athletes will turn left at the Bulmers Roundabout and proceed back to Clonmel to finish close to Barlo Motors on the Davis road. The Club would like to thank the South Tipperary Vocational Committee for the use of their fine facilities at the Mall. There will also be changing facilities available. This is an ideal run to cure the Christmas festivities and all levels of fitness will be catered for, walkers, joggers, fun runners and everyone are welcome to participate. For further enquiries please contact Niall at 086 1660888.

Last year the Club promoted a very successful 4 mile road race on St Stephen’s day where 412 athletes participated. Even the weather was in our favour as athletes had good dry conditions to compete in. Such conditions led to some very good performances with many achieving a PB over this course, which is now considered one of the best 4 mile courses in the country. The 1st 5 men were: 1st Eoin Everard (Kilkenny City Harriers) 18 mins 59 secs, Sean Tobin (Clonmel) 2nd in 19 mins 3 secs, 3rd Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers) 19 mins 4 secs, 4th Brian Maher (Kilkenny City Harriers) 19 mins 7 secs with Brian McMahon (Clonliffe Harriers) 5th in 19 mins 41 secs. This race has been promoted by the Club since 1988 when 87 athletes took part. Since then it has grown in stature and in 2008 we change the course to its present route which is basically the old route in reverse and it has received great reviews ever since. Eoin Everard’s brilliant performance of 18 mins 59 secs puts him in 3rd place overall behind Sandis Bralitis (West Waterford) who ran 18 mins 54 secs in 2008 and David McCarthy (West Waterford) who ran 18:58 in 2011.
In the Ladies race the top 5 were: 1st Siobhain O Doherty (Borrisokane) 21 mins 50 secs, great performance and she set a new course record and she is the only woman to get under 22 minutes for this course. 2nd Angela McCann (Clonmel) 23:11 with Dympna Ryan (Dundrum) 3rd in 23:31, Grace McConnell (Ballyroan / Abbeyleix)  4th senior lady in 24:30 with Sandra Bowe (Clonmel) 5th in 24:49.

Tipperary...Results of the Clonmel 4k race - Wed 3rd Dec 2014

A total of 148 runners took part in this race in Clonmel.

1    Jimmy Boland    14:03
2    Shane Mullaney    14:16
3    Joey Feery    14:36
20    Aine Roche    16:33

44    Catherine Rice    17:32
From Clonmel AC......The 5th race of the 4k Series took place in cold but dry conditions and it was brilliant to see such a large entry and especially so as it was for a very worthy cause - My Canine Companion Autism Services. The format was Lucky Dip based on pre selected finishing positions and the lucky winners were Aine Roche, Vincent McHugh, Sheena Mullins, Ann Marie Looby, Nicola O Gorman, Josephine Brett and Dearbhla O Keeffe. We used the wave start where the first group went off at zero seconds, the Green numbers went off at 20 seconds, the White numbers went off at 40 seconds and the Orange numbers went off at 60 seconds. The results show the athletes actual finishing time having deducted their wave time, be it zero, -20, -40 or -60 seconds, depending on what colour number the athlete was wearing.
The 1st 3 men tonight were Jimmy Boland in 14 mins 3 secs, Shane Mullaney in 14mins 16 secs and Joey Feery in 14 mins 36 secs. The 1st 3 Women were Aine Roche 16 mins 33 secs, Yvonne O Connor in 17 mins 22 secs and Catherine Rice 17 mins 32 secs.
We will hold our last 4k next Wednesday night, December 10th, as a result of having to cancel the race on 26th November due to Road works. So come along and set a PB for your final 4k of 2014. This series of races has been a fantastic success and the Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity, the Civil Defence and all our stewards and officials for ensuring each night was a brilliant success, such help is indeed necessary in order to run an event safely.

Clonmel AC take National Senior Marathon Team Title

After about a delay of about a month, Athletics Ireland have now updated the results of the national marathon which was part of the Dublin Marathon back in late October. It has now been confirmed that Clonmel AC senior womens team won the national title.

From Clonmel AC........We have just received confirmation that our Senior ladies team in this year’s National Marathon Championships which was run in association with the Dublin City Marathon are the National Senior Women Inter Club Marathon Champions. Congrats to Angela McCann, Siobhain McHugh and Aine Roche on a brilliant team achievement, absolutely fantastic, this team event was decided on a combined time of each club’s best three finishers. For the record Angela McCann ran 3 hours 5 mins 50 secs, Siobhain McHugh ran 3 hours 19 mins 4 secs and Aine Roche ran 3 hours 36 mins 43 secs for a combined time of 10 hours 1 min 37 secs with Crusaders of Dublin 2nd on a combined time of 10 hours 9 mins 12 secs and Dundrum South Dublin 3rd on 10 hours 22 mins 18 secs.
These were three fantastic achievements and a special congrats to both Siobhain McHugh and Aine Roche on winning their first All Ireland medal and Gold at that, absolutely fantastic and everyone at Clonmel AC are truly delighted for this talented trio.
Indeed Clonmel Athletic Club are maybe the only Club outside of Dublin to have teams that have won both the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Inter Club National Marathon Titles.
