Results of the Munster Novice, Senior & Masters 4 Mile Road Championships...Sun 3rd Apr 2016

The Munster Novice, Senior & Master 4 Mile Road Championships were held last Sunday the 3rd of April 2016 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare. There was a modest sized turnout with 91 in the mens race and 55 in the womens.

In the womens race, it was a case of a 4 mile time trial for Shona Heaslip as she finished almost 3 minutes ahead of the rest of the field.

Looking through the results, there was no one from Co.Waterford in either the mens or womens race. Last year, it was held in Killmallock, Co.Limerick and the numbers were larger...113 men and 74 women....perhaps because it was a more central location?

Mike Cunningham won the men’s race for the third year in a row in a time of 38.49. Keith Lynch was second in a time of 44.50.
The first lady home was local Loretto Duggan in a time of 48.37 and second was Lorna O’Neill in a time of 51.29.

Clare...Results of the Kilnaboy 10 mile road race - Sun 8th Apr 2012

A total of 193 runners turned out for the Kilnaboy 10 mile road race on what was a dull overcast day. With this being the final race in the John Buckley Sports Munster Ten-Mile Spring Classics Series, quite a few non-local runners made the trip from Waterford, Cork, Kerry and Tipperary.

The winner of the mens race was Michael Shannon of the host club in a time of 52:36. The winner of the womens race was Angela McCann in 60:16.

The numbers were down a fraction on last years figure of 195. The record for the event was set back in 2009 when 363 runners took part.

The mens race was won by Michael Carmody of Limerick AC. Michael Shannon of Kilnaboy AC (right) finished 2nd while Cathal O'Donovan of St.Finbarrs AC (left) finished 3rd.

Tipperary...Results of the Annerville 10k road race - Sun 8th May 2011

This popular 10 km road race in Clonmel attracted around 300 people. The winner of the mens race was Sandis Bralitis of West Waterford AC in a time of 31:51, over 2 minutes ahead of his nearest rival. The ladies race was won by Siobhain O'Doherty of Borrisokane in a time of 35:52.

Clare...Results of the Kilnaboy 10 - Sun 10 Apr 2011

The Munster 10 Mile Spring Classic Series concluded with the fourth and final race, the Kilnaboy 10.

There were 195 finishers this year, down about 30 on last years. Perhaps the Connemara marathon events on the same day is drawing numbers away ?
However Philip Harty of West Waterford AC put in an excellent time, just one second behind Gerry Ryan of GCH's 2006 result. This is just days after he make a clean-sweep in the Colligan Spring League 2011.
First Lady home was Treacy Roche of Doneen AC, nearly 4 minutes ahead of her 2010 winning result.

All runners received the light gray Kilnaboy 10 cotton tee shirt, and additionally runners who were completing all four races in the Munster spring series received a blue long-sleeved  technical top.

A new community hall is being completed at Kilnaboy, and runners had the honour of being the first event to be staged in this new building. This makes a big difference from everyone cramming into a single classroom for refreshments and prize giving!

No series results have been published yet, but there were 161 runners after the first three races, and it looks like 71 completed all four.

Wed 16th March.....
Waterford....West Waterford AC are starting off a series of races in Colligan Woods just outside Dungarvan. The races start at 6:15pm sharp. Entry fee €2. More info in an earlier post HERE

Thurs 17th March......There are a fair few events on St.Patrick's Day.

Cork.....There are 2 races on offer....a 4 mile race in Ballinhassig near the city and a 10k in Ballydehob in west Cork. More details on the Running in Cork website.

Limerick.......The Paddy's Run is a 10 km fun run starting at 10am in the University of Limerick. More details HERE

Limerick......According to several websites, there is a race in Croom but other than the info below, it seems to be a well kept secret! I presume it's the annual 6k? Ring the number provided if you are interested...

This is a new and much upgraded 5K Race and 2.5K Walk in aid of Shamrocks GAA Club (in association with Slaney Olympic AC). Registration in Shamrocks Gaa Club 9.30-10.30am. Entry €7 Individual or €20 for team of 4. Teams to consist of 4 runners with each running the FULL 5K (it is not a relay). The winning team will be decided on the basis of finishing position, the team with the lowest cumulative score being the winner. Individual and team prizes. Souvenir medal for all participants. Results of the Munster Masters Cross Country Championships - Dungarvan, Sun 21st Nov 2010

The Munsters Masters Cross Country Championships took place in Dungarvan, West Waterford on Sunday, the 21st of November 2010. The weather conditions were perfect with the races taking place in cool conditions in the weak winter sunshine.

The mens race was run over a fast 7 km route and was won by Con Marshall of St.Finbarr's AC. The full results can be found HERE.

The ladies race was over a similar 3.5 km route and was won by Rhona Lynch of Eagle AC. The results can be seen HERE.

Results and Stats for the 2010 Munster Ten-Mile Spring Classics Seires...

Just in case you missed it, a total of 85 runners completed the 2010 John Buckley Sports Munster Ten-Mile Spring Classics Series. The overall results are now up on the series website.


These overall standing are compiled by Denis Sheehan of Mallow AC and he has come up with some interesting stats....

Out of the 85 runners who completed all 4 races

·       41% had their fastest time in Mallow

·       34% Dungarvan

·       21% Ballycotton

·       4% Kilnaboy

Looking at “slowest” times

·       6% Mallow

·       14% Dungarvan

·       18% Ballycotton

·       62% Kilnaboy

Those results would suggest that Mallow may well be the fastest of the 10 Mile courses in the series?

Race in Munster this weekend...Sat 27th-Sun 28th Feb 2010

There is no shortage of races this weekend in Munster with a road race in almost every corner of the province.


Saturday 27th Feb...
Kerry...In Killarney, Gneeveguilla AC are holding the final race in their Spring 5k series. The previous 3 races have attracted around 80 runners on each occasion and the race on Saturday will probably attract a similar number. The race starts at 11am. Sunday 28th Feb...
On the Sunday, there is a choice of 3 races...


Cork...Eagle AC are holding their annual 5 mile road race in Carrigaline at 11am to the south of Cork City. More details about this race later on the Running in Cork website.


Waterford......In Dungarvan, West Waterford AC are holding a 10 km road race in the town. More details below...
"The Dungarvan Business Centre 10K is the fourth and final race of the Michael Roche Carpets Spring Series.

The race starts at 11 am with entries taken at the Dungarvan sports centre.Quanns behind Parish Church in the town,(same venue as that used for Quantum life Dungarvan 10) from 9.30 am onwards. The race itself starts close by. Entry fee is 8 euros. Changing, showers, refreshments and prize-giving will all take place at the Sports centre.

Limerick / Clare...In Castleconnell to the North-East of Limerick City, there is a 10 km race at 2pm. Despite the fact that it starts in Co.Limerick, most of the course is in Co.Clare! More details on the race website.
