This scenic charity 10k through Curragh Chase Forest Park is coming up on Sunday the 17th of August at 12 noon.

From the organisers.......Whether you are an enthusiastic runner looking for a challenge or looking for a walk through some of Munsters most stunning scenery, then the Curragh-Chase 10km has it all.

Now in its 3rd year, the Curraghchase 10km Run/Walk is being held on the 17th of August 2014 in conjunction with the Children’s Ark Unit, Limerick University Hospital.

The Curraghchase 10Km Run/ Walk will be staged through the picturesque woodland area of Curraghchase Forest Park and around the former residence of famous Irish poet Aubrey de Vere.

Kerry...Preview of the Jack+Jill 10k Kenmare - Sat 24th Apr 2010

This is a charity fundraiser, organized by Kenmare Tri, taking place in Kenmare on Saturday at 3pm.

This race has it's own web-site.

I did this last year, and I can assure you the picture at the left hand side is an indication of the steep gradient !

The race starts in the town centre, and heads north. very soon, you encounter a steep hill. In fact a 650 foot high hill ! There's a great view and some refreshements at the top.

Last year over 1000 people entered. €29,000 was raised for a deserving cause. The Jack and Jill is a family friendly event and kids, buggies, grannies and doggies (on a lead) are welcome 'Monies' raised in the event for 2010 are to be donated to The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and Kenmare Branch Kerry Mental Health Jack and Jill provide respite care for severely ill children, up to the age of four, and their families, in the Republic of Ireland, Including many in Kerry and surrounds.

Kenmare Branch Kerry Mental Health provides Mental Health Day-care facilities for people of the surrounding district and aspires to open a facility in Kenmare. Jack and Jill Run up The Hill 2010 is open to runners and walkers of all ages.

The entry fee is €30.00 and € 2.00 euro for a timing chip (optional)

Under 16’s must be accompanied and can enter for a minimum of € 5.00

Kerry...Lions Club 10k Charity Run - Sun 17th May 2009

This charity run takes place in Killarney on Sunday, the 17th of May at 3pm. The route is mostly through the park in Killarney with only short sections on the public road.

An entry form and map can be found at this link although I'd suspect the map may be incorrect? It looks a bit too short for 10km.

I was also sent the map above which I'd reckon is the correct route. The route out is shown in purple and the route back is in green.

The entry fee is 10 euro and proceeds go to two charities.

There are prizes for : Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Men, Junior Women, Veteran Men (over 40), Veteran Women (over 35).

Limerick...Plassey 10 km fun run - Sat 21st Mar 2009

There are 2 road races in Munster next weekend. One is the Munster Masters Road Race Championships in Beaufort in Co.Kerry on Sunday. This event is pre-entry only and only athlethic club members can take part.

The other event is the Plassey 10 km charity run in Limerick City on Saturday, the 21st of March at 11am. Note that this is more of a fun run than a serious race so the distance may not be exactly 10 kms. From what I hear, last year was a bit short so don't be too worried about your finish time.

To take part, you should pre-enter.

Sun 14th.....Clare.......In the South-West of the county near Kilrush, there is the annual Bernie Meaney memorial 5K road-race. This race is in Kilmurry McMahon which is about 15kms to the East of Kilrush. This race is not far from the Tarbert Car Ferry so it might of special interest to any runners from North of the Kingdom.

Waterford...'WLRFM Run for Life' 10 Mile Road Race - Sun 19th Oct (12 noon)

From what I understand, this is more of a fun run & charity fund raising event rather than the usual type of road race. The run is in aid of a new cancer support centre for Waterford and the South East. The main sponsor is WLRFM, the local radio station. You have the option of running the full 10 miles or you can enter as a relay team and run 5 miles each.

Waterford...Sun 22nd June 2008 - Crucháun Sunrise Challenge

This is a charity event in aid of the Niall Mellon Township Trust fund. Here is some more info on the event as supplied by James Veale of West Waterford AC...
The Cruchan event is only a walk for a local charity that we have each year. We drive from the town to the foot of the mouintain and walk the mile or so to the summit to watch the sun rise. After we come down, some of us run the 7 miles back to Dungarvan. So its not a race as such, just a local charity walk but of course everyone is more than welcome to come along. Whether it would be worth losing a nights sleep for is another mather!! .........James Veale

The 4th Annual Crucháun Sunrise Challenge will leave Minnie's, Abbeyside at 4 AM on Sunday morning June 22nd. Entry 20 Euro,including full Irish breakfast on return from challenge. All proceeds this year will be donated to Niall Mellon Township Trust fund. Can you boast of having done the challenge!!
