Notice...Ballynonty 10 mile road race, Tipperary - Sun 29th July 2018

This 10 mile road race is coming up on Sunday the 29th of July 2018 at 11am. It could probably be best described as a 'back to basics, no frills' 10 mile road race.

There is no chip timing, no dry fit tops, no medals, no online entries, no early bird entry, no late bird entry, no goodie bags or any of the other stuff. Just a good quality old fashioned 10 mile road race over an accurately measured course for a very modest price with a great spread afterwards.


The village of Ballynonty is in South Tipperary and is just a few miles off the M8 motorway.

Just a reminder that entries to the Run Killarney Half-Marathon & 10k close this Friday the 20th of July. The race is on Saturday the 28th of July.

It's the only time of the year where you can run safely on the road from Moll's Gap to Killarney.

Notice : Clerihan 5 mile road race, Tipperary - Fri 13th July 2018

The Clerihan 5 mile Road Race is coming up on Friday evening, the 13th of July at 7:30pm in South Tipperary...

Organised in association with Clonmel AC, this is the 6th year of this race. There is also an optional 5k.

Clerihan is located about 4 miles to the north-west of Clonmel on the R688 road to Cashel...

Tipperary : Results & photos of the Coillte 10k in Dundrum - Wed 4th July 2018

Runners from all over Munster traveled to Dundrum, Tipperary on Wednesday evening the 4th of July for what is probably the fastest 10k race in the province. Organised by Dundrum AC, the course certainly didn't disappoint with many fine and fast times being set by many club runners in the fine summer sunshine.

Report from Dundrum AC.......

Coillte 10k/5k Dundrum
An entry of 245 athletes went to the start line which included 29 athletes in the Junior 5k race down overall on last year but still good for the roasting hot weather conditions of the past few weeks. The hot conditions probably accounted for some of the 10 athletes who failed to finish the 10k and the 1 athlete who failed to complete the Junior race. Even though non finishers are common every year with the two lap race.

Kenyan athlete Freddy Keron Sittuk who competes for Dublin club Raheny Shamrock’s was gone from the whistle at the start of the two lap course and he was well clear as he headed out on the second lap. Kevin Moore from the host club Dundrum put in a great last lap to close down the gap on the African man to one second at the end. International athlete Siobhan O’Doherty from the Borrisokane club was a clear winner of the women’s race for the eleventh time.

Twelve year old Shane Buckley from the Dundrum club was a impressive winner of the Junior 5k race while Thurles Crokes athlete Nuala Fitzgibbon won the girls race.

Limerick : Results of the Briff 5 mile - Fri 30th June 2018

The annual Bruff 5 mile road race was held on Friday the 29th of June 2018 and 131 runners took part. That's a 25% reduction on 2017 and as can be seen from the chart above, there has been a big drop since 2016.

Perhaps another sign that the running boom is beginning to fizzle out a bit?

Full marathon in Waterford cancelled due to hot weather...

The organisers of the Viking Waterford Marathon have decided to cancel the full 26.2 mile marathon on Saturday due to the current spell of hot weather. The forecast is for temperatures of about 24 degrees at noon with 20 deg expected at the start.

Those who had entered the full are being given an option of doing the 13.1 mile half-marathon instead, deferring it to next year or getting a refund.

Roughly 400 runners complete the Viking Marathon every year.

Tipperary : Results of the Borrisoleigh Track Attack 5k - Wed 27th June 2018

A total of 210 runners turned out for this years Borrisoleigh Track Attack 5K in Tipperary on what was a warm sunny evening. While the numbers for a 5k race in Tipperary are pretty good, they are still down 24% on the 277 of 2017 (251 in 2016).

Maybe a sign that the running boom is beginning to splutter?

Notice : West Waterford Greenway Half-Marathon - Sat 8th Sept 2018

The 2nd West Waterford Greenway Half-Marathon is coming up this year on Saturday the 8th of September 2018 at 9am. When this new half-marathon opened last year, it sold out in just 2 day!

There is a limit of 750 entries this year and it will open on Monday the 2nd of July at 9am.


The new Greenway which runs from Waterford City to Dungarvan follows the route of the old railway line and opened in 2017. With a combination of mountain and coastal views, it has been really popular with walkers, runners and cyclists.

This Greenway goes from Kilmacthomas to Dungarvan going across several viaducts and through the 400 metre long Ballyvoile tunnel. This video below gives a flavour of what the greenway is like.



This is likely to fill up fast so don't delay entering if you are interested.

Notice - Run Killarney Half-Marathon & 10k...Sat 28th July 2018

One of the biggest races in Kerry is the annual Killarney Half-Marathon & 10k and it's coming up on Saturday the 28th of July 2018.

The half marathon starts at Moll's Gap at 8:30am and follows one of the most scenic roads in the country to the finish line at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney. Participants in the half marathon will be taken by bus from Killarney to the start line at Moll's Gap.

The 10k starts at 10am and finishes at the Gleneagle Hotel and takes in a loop inside the national park near Muckross House.

Note that the road from Molls Gap to Killarney will be closed to traffic and it's the only time of the year that you can run on this busy road.
