This years Clogheen 5 km road race in Tipperary attracted a large field of 152 entrants despite the damp conditions.
Race report from the organisers Clonmel AC...
The Clogheen 5k road race attracted a brilliant entry of 152 athletes despite the very bad weather before and during the race. Over the years this race has grown in stature and a testament of its popularity is that this year's entries were the 2nd highest even despite the bad weather and the number of other races in the vicinity. There was a minute silence in respect of Joe Grinsell who died so sudden recently.
The race started and despite the bad weather competition was very keen with David Ryan of Clonmel and the eventual winner Tony Fogarty of Thurles Crokes matching stride for stride all the way around the route. They were still together as they entered the village and in a hectic battle for the line Tony Fogarty went clear to win a great race. Great to see Tony back competing very well again and this win will surely spur him on to more wins. Then we had Patrick Hughes of Thurles 3rd with Stewart Moloney of Moore Abbey Milers 4th and Shane Mullaney of Thurles Crokes 5th.
In the Ladies race Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum went clear in the early stages to come home a very worthy winner from Claire Anna of Carrick on Suir and Angela McCann of Clonmel.
