It's a bank holiday weekend with distances from 5k to full marathon...

Thu 29th Apr...
Limerick.....UL Rowing Club are having a 5k/10k run this Thursday at 7pm.
Registration from 6.30pm cost is €5 per person, €3 student.

Cork......The East Cork Road Championships takes place in Ballynoe.
Ladies 2000m at 7:30pm, followed by the Men's 5 mile.


Fri 30th Apr...
Waterford......The Friends of Glor na Mara school in Tramore present the "The Tramore 4", 4 mile fun run and walk.
Registration at the Oceanics surf school from 5.30pm
Walkers start at 6.30pm, Runners start at 7pm

Cork......North Cork clubs, Mallow AC and Cork City Marathon winner Michael Herlihy are organizing a Ballyhoura ACTIVE summer series, starting with a 5km race in the Doneraile Wildlife Park on Friday at 7:30pm. More details on the Mallow AC site. MapMyRun

Tipperary......The John Joe Barry 5km Road Race takes place at 8pm at The Commons, Ballingarry at 8pm. This is the first race in the Tipperary Challenge 2010. See map.


Sun 2nd May...
Cork......The Bay Run half-marathon from Glengarriff to Bantry starts at 9am.
This is a pre-entry race only. Entries closed 20 April.


Limerick......The Great Limerick Run is an event with 10K, half marathon and full marathon.
Registration date extended until April 30th.

Tipperary......u9 to 12 Track & Field Championships - Day 1 at Templemore.

Kerry......Day 1 Juvenile Track & Field Championships 2010 At An Riocht Athletic Track, Castleisland. Day 2 will follow on Sunday 9th May.

Clare......Clare Athletics Association Juvenile Track and Field Championships (Day 1) U/8 to U/19's at the New 400metres Track at Lees Road Complex starting at 11.00am.

Cork......The Munster Senior/Junior & U23 T&F Championships are at Cork IT.

Clare...Results of Race 4 in the Fun Run Series 2010 - Fri 23rd April 2010

The results of this 5k at Carron race are now online at the Clare Sports Partnership site.

The fifth and final race takes place on Friday 7th May at 7pm, over 5k in Ennis.

Tipperary - Info on the Ballynonty Road Series

Just to note there's 1 mile road race in Tipperary on Tues 27th of April 2010 @ 8pm in Ballynonty It is the first race of a 5 race series called the Ballynonty Road Series which continues in succession every Tuesday for 5 weeks each week the race builds up a mile in distance until the 4th week which is a 4 mile and ends the 5th week with a 4 by 1mile relay event in which teams are comprised evenly based on their previous times note that you have to run all races to compete in the final relay race

Prizes will be presented on the final night . all the race finishers finishing positions will be added from the 4 races All abilities will be catered for as there is a first & second division leaders table and prizes also for the winning relay teams The entry fee is €20 for the series please note that there wont be any tea or sandwiches till the final night or prizes for each individual race the aim is to get people to run all 5 races if possible , The numbers for these races in the last couple of years have being low with an average of 30 competing in each race but are great for people starting out or for those who want to try there hand at the smaller distances

Results and Stats for the 2010 Munster Ten-Mile Spring Classics Seires...

Just in case you missed it, a total of 85 runners completed the 2010 John Buckley Sports Munster Ten-Mile Spring Classics Series. The overall results are now up on the series website.


These overall standing are compiled by Denis Sheehan of Mallow AC and he has come up with some interesting stats....

Out of the 85 runners who completed all 4 races

·       41% had their fastest time in Mallow

·       34% Dungarvan

·       21% Ballycotton

·       4% Kilnaboy

Looking at “slowest” times

·       6% Mallow

·       14% Dungarvan

·       18% Ballycotton

·       62% Kilnaboy

Those results would suggest that Mallow may well be the fastest of the 10 Mile courses in the series?

Kerry...Preview of the Jack+Jill 10k Kenmare - Sat 24th Apr 2010

This is a charity fundraiser, organized by Kenmare Tri, taking place in Kenmare on Saturday at 3pm.

This race has it's own web-site.

I did this last year, and I can assure you the picture at the left hand side is an indication of the steep gradient !

The race starts in the town centre, and heads north. very soon, you encounter a steep hill. In fact a 650 foot high hill ! There's a great view and some refreshements at the top.

Last year over 1000 people entered. €29,000 was raised for a deserving cause. The Jack and Jill is a family friendly event and kids, buggies, grannies and doggies (on a lead) are welcome 'Monies' raised in the event for 2010 are to be donated to The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and Kenmare Branch Kerry Mental Health Jack and Jill provide respite care for severely ill children, up to the age of four, and their families, in the Republic of Ireland, Including many in Kerry and surrounds.

Kenmare Branch Kerry Mental Health provides Mental Health Day-care facilities for people of the surrounding district and aspires to open a facility in Kenmare. Jack and Jill Run up The Hill 2010 is open to runners and walkers of all ages.

The entry fee is €30.00 and € 2.00 euro for a timing chip (optional)

Under 16’s must be accompanied and can enter for a minimum of € 5.00

Waterford...Results of the Butlerstown 10k - Fri 23rd April 2010

A total of 267 people completed this year's race, which is down a little on the 2009 turnout.

However on the positive side, unlike last year there was no rain :)
The new N25 Waterford bypass seems to have helped reduce traffic in the area.
The excellent traffic management by race organizers and Gardai ensured that this year's race had a completely unobstructed course.

The next race in this series is the Waterford-Tramore 7.5 mile race, which takes place at 7pm on Saturday 8th May 2010. More details closer to the race...
Postal entry available up to 6th May.

Waterford...Preview of the Butlerstown 10k - Fri 23rd April 2010

The Butlerstown 10k takes place on Friday evening at 7:30pm. This is the second race in the Ger Wyley Summer Series.

The nearest landmark is the Holy Cross Bar on the old Cork Road.

In 2009, this race attracted 302 runners, despite some rain.

Registration is at the Butlerstown GAA Club.
Parking is limited. There may be spaces available in the GAA club, and the Holy Cross Bar carpark. Please try to avoid parking along the course itself.
Entry fee: 8€ -- quite reasonable.
Compared to last week's Marine Climb 6, this is an easy one :)
It's a circuit, with registration/start/finish all in close proximity.
The distance 10km = 6.2 miles is slightly greater, but terrain is *much* flatter!
The race starts a few hundred metres up the side road outside the GAA club.
You run back towards the Holy Cross Bar, and take a left turn onto the old N25 road, and proceed up to the Butlerstown Roundabout, and left again.
There is a slight hill at about 3/4 ways around the course.
Basically it slightly more than 3 laps of a 2 mile square course.
After completing 3 laps, continue down the road, and turn right into the GAA club.
The finish line will be on the pitch.
Presentation of prizes will be at the Ramada Hotel, which is on the city side of the Butlerstown roundabout.

Note: Since the completion of the Waterford bypass, the main road may no longer be designated the N25, but is now the R680. The Ramada Hotel are quoting GPS /SatNav Coordinates :-

The series is open to all over 18. You do not have to be a member of a club or meet and train group to enter. You can walk, jog or run.

Cork...Great Island 10 - Sun 18th April 2010

Cork......The Great Island 10 is a new race being run in Cobh, Co Cork, with all funds going to the Irish Cancer Society.

The race starts at 11:00, but you are asked to be assembled by 10:40 latest.

Entry Fee: €15.00 which will be donated to Irish Cancer Society.
Entries taken on day from 9.30am at HQ.

Clare...Healthy Heart 10k - Sat 17th April 2010

Clare......There is a 10k fun fun race, and a 3.5k at Kilmaley, Co Clare, at 12noon.

Entry fee: €15 for adults, and €5 for children, at Kilmaley School, Co Clare.

The Healthy Heart 10k Charity Fun Walk & Road Race will take place on Sat April 17th starting at 12 noon at Kilmaley School and there will be an option of taking a 3.5k walk and fun run and all proceeds raised will go towards the Ray of Hope Hospice Jinja in Uganda & to KilmaleyVoluntary Housing Ass.

Waterford......Marine Climb 6 - Fri 16th April 7pm

Summer has arrived and the evening racing season gets off to a great start with the Marine Climb 6 in Dungarvan, which is the first race in the Ger Wyley Summer Series.

Note: This is a point-to-point race, outbound from the waterfront in Dungarvan to the Marine Bar, Ring, and attracted 214 runners in 2009.

You may need to make car sharing arrangements to get back to the start point.

Entry fee: 8€ at St. Joseph's primary school, Dungarvan (next to the church).

The race starts on the waterfront near the school. From what I can recall, there were two important announcements last year :-

• AAI Permit and insurance only covers the race. It does not cover runners returning from Ring, and it may be getting dark by then.
• Keep to left at all times when running on the N25 main road.

The first half of this race may seem deceptively easy, running on reasonably flat roads.

As soon as you take the left turn into Ring, the 'climb' begins. There are two hair-pins bends on this stretch of road. There was at least one well appreciated water-station on this section last year. I've only been on one tougher hill climb race myself ;o)

There is a slight down-hill section approaching the finish at the Marine Bar.

Limerick......Results of the Croom 'Joey Hannan' 6km - Wed 17 Mar 2010

This race took place on St Patrick's Day as a fundraiser for Croom Church Heating Project and the Croom Peruvian Children's Project.
