Clonmel AC take National Senior Marathon Team Title
After about a delay of about a month, Athletics Ireland have now updated the results of the national marathon which was part of the Dublin Marathon back in late October. It has now been confirmed that Clonmel AC senior womens team won the national title.
From Clonmel AC........We have just received confirmation that our Senior ladies team in this year’s National Marathon Championships which was run in association with the Dublin City Marathon are the National Senior Women Inter Club Marathon Champions. Congrats to Angela McCann, Siobhain McHugh and Aine Roche on a brilliant team achievement, absolutely fantastic, this team event was decided on a combined time of each club’s best three finishers. For the record Angela McCann ran 3 hours 5 mins 50 secs, Siobhain McHugh ran 3 hours 19 mins 4 secs and Aine Roche ran 3 hours 36 mins 43 secs for a combined time of 10 hours 1 min 37 secs with Crusaders of Dublin 2nd on a combined time of 10 hours 9 mins 12 secs and Dundrum South Dublin 3rd on 10 hours 22 mins 18 secs.
These were three fantastic achievements and a special congrats to both Siobhain McHugh and Aine Roche on winning their first All Ireland medal and Gold at that, absolutely fantastic and everyone at Clonmel AC are truly delighted for this talented trio.
Indeed Clonmel Athletic Club are maybe the only Club outside of Dublin to have teams that have won both the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Inter Club National Marathon Titles.

Report from Verena Tarpey of Dooneen AC...
University of Limerick
The County Seniors is always a fantastic race and attracts runners from all levels out to compete for the coveted title. The University of Limerick was the location for this year’s final. We must thank Limerick AC for hosting the event and providing hospitality afterwards and also to Mossie Woulfe and Ann Cullinane who are hard working volunteers that compile results and work in the background on all these events. Their work does not go unnoticed.
Senior Ladies
The ladies ran 8k over difficult terrain including mud and hills. Carolyn Hayes, West Limerick AC lead from the start and was the winner over Tracey Johnson of Dooneen AC in second and Noelle Fitzgerald of West Limerick AC in third. Caroline Conroy of West Limerick was fourth, her clubmate Fiona Bourke in 5th, Niamh Harnett and Orla Downes both of Dooneen AC in 6th and 7th, Carmel Mac Domhnaill and Edel Henriques of West Limerick were 8th and 9th and Karen Raine of Dooneen AC made 10th spot. It was great to see An Bru field a team in one of their first cross country seasons and Helen Hartigan, Breda Bridges, Lousie Lynch and Ann Byrnes flew the flag for An Bru. Karen O’Brien, Norma Brosnahan and Audrey O’Dwyer also ran for West Limerick. A huge congratulations to West Limerick AC for collecting the much coveted first placed Senior Team, Dooneen and second and An Bru in third.
Senior Men
The men’s contest turned out to be just that and for those who were cheering them along, it was a terrific event. It was a tough 10k route around the fields of UL. Colm Turner of Limerick AC proved to be the winner, staying behind for the first couple of kilometres but gradually taking the lead and moving ahead. Niall O’Callaghan of West Limerick is an amazing runner as well and came a worthy second with Declan Moore of Bilboa in thurd. Ger Guina of West Limerick was 4th and proved on Sunday that he is definitely back on form, his club mate Mike O’Brien not far behind in 5th. in 6th, 7th and 8th were 3 Limerick AC runners, Paul Fitzgerald, Martin Doody and Mark Guerin. Fiachra McDomhnaill was 9th and Sean Quirke 10th. It was great to see such strong teams including Dermot Kearns, Dermot Power, Brian Flannelly and Sean Harte of Dooneen work together as a team as they did during this race. West Limerick AC had other strong runner such as John O’Shea, Mike Brosnahan, Declan O’Keefe and Paul Crotty.
Limerick AC had large numbers in this event including Keith Ryan, Vincent O’Brien, David Beary, Keith Daly, Mike Lynch, Brian O’Sullivan, Tony O’Donovan and Pat O’Riordan. Bilboa AC also fielded a team consisting of James Bourke, Kevin Wilkinson and Barry O’Brien. Dooneen also had a large group of men running – Kevin Johnson, Joe Chawke, Shane Larkin, Darragh Maguire, Sean Hudson, Niall Lynch and Frank O’Sullivan. An Bru also had Paul Ryan and Brendan Hennessy competing.
Once again, the much anticipated title was at stake and club officials were all tallying the numbers on each lap to predict where the title would go. At one stage, the points were even but West Limerick moved away to clinch the title in first place, Limerick AC in second, Dooneen in third and Bilboa in fourth.

Tipperary...Results of the Clonmel 4k road race - Wed 12th Nov 2014
From Clonmel AC...The 3rd race of the Pre Christmas 4K series took place in good conditions and once again we had a brilliant entry of 193 athletes, fantastic. It was brilliant to see the big entry and confirms last week's record entry of 198 wasn't a once off. The Club would like to thank the Civil Defence, the Brothers of Charity and our many stewards in helping to make last night's event such a success. Notice...Tipperary...Clonmel 4k race series - Oct to Dec 2014
Clonmel AC are organising a series of 4 km races every Wednesday evening from the 29th of October to the 3rd of December 2014.
Some notes from the organisers....The Autumn 4K Road Race Series This very popular series of races caters for all levels of fitness and it gets underway on Wednesday 29th October at 7pm. This year’s series will consist of six races finishing on Wednesday 3rd December. The entry fee is 4 Euros and there will be prizes to be won every night of the series. We will use different race formats during the series.
This series will cater for all levels of fitness as we will have three stagger starts catering for three different level of fitness. It is an ideal opportunity to Get and Stay Fit for the winter months in the company of others. This is a great way to encourage people to train during the Winter months, especially when the evenings get dark and it is easier to sit at home and watch TV. This year we are encouraging as many people as possible to come out to Get and Stay Fit.
This series of races are also part of the Joe Grinsell 100km Challenge. We are indeed very grateful to the Brothers of Charity for the use of their Car park for registration. As regards parking please obey the stewards.
There are a few Rules to be observed for this Series and we ask all participants to co operate:
1. All runners must wear reflective bibs, luminous jackets or tops are not sufficient for running in the dark. It is part of the club’s health and safety policy that all runners MUST wear REFLECTIVE gear so please obey this rule. Proper reflective bibs can be bought at most Sports shops and we will have ones to borrow when you REGISTER each night.
2. You must wear your number at the front of your bib as your number will be recorded as you cross the line and we can then work out your time. Please pin your number either above or below the reflective strip on your bib, pinning your number on the reflective strip will mean that you will not be visible to traffic.
3. Watches, headphones, ipods or MP3 players are strictly forbidden. You must be able to hear the instructions of the stewards and you also need to be able to hear the traffic from all directions, there will be no exceptions to this rule. Stewards will take note of your number and we will know who you are, please don’t let this happen.
This series of races is an ideal opportunity for everyone to Get and Keep Fit for the Winter at their own pace in the Company of other athletes as these races caters for all levels of fitness from Jogging to running. Indications are that this year’s series of races will attract a great entry so everyone is asked to come early and enter. Entries will be taken at the Brothers of Charity car park, Silversprings, from 6.15pm onwards each night. The Club would like members to come forward and help with the marshalling of these races.
For further enquiries please contact Niall at 086 1660888.
