I have been more or less updating the race calendar every single day since the start of December with events that are coming up over the Christmas period.

There is at the latest count 96 running related events in the area shown in the map.

These are broken down as follows...

Cork 25, Kerry 14, Clare 12, Tipperary 11, Wexford 10, Limerick 9, Kilkenny 7, Carlow 5 and Waterford 3.

There is something in there for everyone... road race, parkruns...the usual ones and extra ones, trail runs, fun runs, GOAL miles, etc.  No matter where you live, there is bound to be something close by.

Notice : Clonmel 4 mile race in Tipperary - Wed 26th Dec 2018

The big race in Tipperary over the Christmas period is the annual 4 mile race in Clonmel on Wednesday the 26th of December 2018.

From the organisers Clonmel AC...Preparations for this year’s event on St Stephen’s Day are going very well. This Club event is once again sponsored by MSD and we are very grateful for such sponsorship. The race starts at 12 noon and entries will be taken from 10.30am onwards at Colaiste Cheitinn, the Mall. Last year we had over 450 athletes competing, this event caters for all levels of fitness.

This year’s Prize list is as follows: The winner of the race will receive 150 Euros. This year there will be Prizes for the following categories, Men: 1st 5 Men, 1st 2 0/40, 0/45, 0/50, 1st 0/55, 0/60, 0/65, 0/70 and 0/75 plus 1st 2 Junior Men. The list of Prizes for the Ladies is as follows: the 1st 5 Senior Ladies, 1st 2 0/35, 0/40, 0/45, 1st 0/50 0/55 and 0/60 plus 1st 2 Junior Ladies.

There will also be some great Spot Prizes for down the field finishers to be won, so come along and participate in a great Sporting event. This is an ideal event to raise funds for local charities.

There will also be Post Race Refreshments in the Vocational School. This year’s event will be Chip timed by Premier Timing Systems. This event has an Athletics Ireland Race Permit.

The Christmas period is one of the busiest times of the year for running events and it really kicks off next weekend.

The list below which is extracted from the race calendar gives a good idea of what is on offer. Which event you take part in really depends on where you live.

The big race in Co.Cork next weekend is the annual Newmarket 5k organised by Duhallow AC on Sunday the 16th of December. They have had quite a large number of pre-entries to date and you can still enter on the day.

The normal round of entries for the 2019 John Treacy 10 mile road race in Dungarvan closed at the start of November. They are however accepting 'Elite Entries' and the standard required is shown below...

From West Waterford AC..."If you wish to apply as an elite runner please send your information to info AT westwaterfordathletics DOT org stating your name, date of birth, club and fastest time and location for either half marathon or 10 mile race ran in the last 3 years.

Half Marathon time: Under 1.20 for men (1.30 for women)

Weather Forecast for the 2018 Waterford Half-Marathon

The weather forecast for the 2018 Waterford Half-Marathon on Sat 1st December looks pretty good.

A front will pass over the southern half of the country on Friday night and early Saturday morning. By the start of the race, it will have cleared and it should be overcast but dry. There will be a light breeze from the West.

Overall, pretty good conditions for a half-marathon.
