Waterford...Results of the Liz Hayes Memorial 5 mile race - Fri 26th Aug 2016
From West Waterford AC........Ailish Ni hAodha memorial Ballyduff 5 Mile 2016
The SE2 sponsors Ailish Ni hAodha memorial Ballyduff 5 Mile road race took place last Friday evening and the weather was ideal for the 105 runners and 40 walkers who completed the undulating course, after the nine stop downpour we witnessed at last years event, this year we are delighted to report that Ballyduff looked splendid in the evening sunshine which was welcome by all. It was great to see a much larger turnout this year which is deserving of the organizers Tony Latham and his team of helpers who had everything in tip top order for the event.
The race was started at 7 pm by our honorary race starter this year Waterford's county hurling manager Derek McGrath from the community hall,which all the process from the night were donated to the upkeep of.Our sincere thanks to Derek for taking the time out to come along to support the local community in Ballyduff.As the runners made their way out of the village to the musical sounds of top WLR Broadcaster John O'Shea our eventual race winner was well and truly on his way to claiming the memorial cup on offer,Waterford's Frank Quinlan raced through the first mile in just under 5 minutes and laid the marker down without reply from any quarter , by the 2 mile the race was truly over as Frank was a minute clear of the chasers. the Waterford man went on to cross the finish line in a time of 26.50 well clear of his team mate Trevor Swift who finished 2nd in 28.38 with David Kynes Kilmore AC 3rd in 28.38.Mossie Keogh broke the 30 minutes when clocking 29.19 , excellent running on this course from Mossie. Ray Hahesy took the over 50 category with a time of 30.53. and the 1st junior priE was claimed by Alex Folry Waterfrod AC in 29.06. The prize for the first local finisher went to Brian Cuddihy 29.15.

Notice...Glen of Aherlow Loop de Loop Half, Full & Ultra Marathon in Tipperary - Sat 17th Sept 2016
This event is coming up on Saturday the 17th of September in Co.Tipperary and there is a choice between a 13.1 mile half-marathon, 26.2 mile marathon and a 39.3 mile ultra-marathon.
The course is a 13.1 mile loop. You complete it once for the half, twice for the full and three times for the ultra.
From the organisers.......We are happy to roll out the 3rd edition of the Glen of Aherlow Loop de Loop Race.
The race start/finish this year will be in the village of Lisvernane in the Glen of Aherlow.
As with our other long distance races, sign up will include:
Hot showers afterward, Full meal, Tech Tee shirt and aid stations.
Route is fully marked and is chip timed.
This years race will be Sat 17th Sept 2016.
Ultra (3 loop) start 8am €60
Full Marathon (2 loop) start 10am €50
Half Marathon (1 loop) start 12noon €40

Kerry...Results of the Rose of Tralee 10k - Sun 21st Aug 2016
543 runners turned out for this years Rose of Tralee 10k race in Co.Kerry on Sunday the 21st of August 2016. That represents a drop of about 13% on last year but not as steep as drop as the previous year. As races go in Co.Kerry, 543 is still a pretty big number and this would make it one of the bigger ones in the year.

Notice...Liz Hayes Memorial 5 mile fun run, Ballyduff - Fri 26th Aug 2016
From the organisers.....This year's race takes place on Friday August 26th, walkers setting off at 6:15pm and runners at 7pm. Entry for runners and walkers is 10 euro. se2 have sponsored cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd males and females home along with cash prizes for the first over 40 and 50 male and female finishers.
The first male and female home will also be presented with the perpetual Liz Hayes Memorial Trophy along with a smaller trophy to be kept by the winner. Once again we will have a large number of fantastic spot prizes generously sponsored by local businesses, giving everyone taking part in the race or walk a good chance of winning a prize.
West Waterford AC will be taking care of race timings..
There will also be a wide range of refreshments served after the race in the nearby Community Centre where the prize giving will also take place. All funds raised will be given to the Ballyduff Community Centre Redevelopment Fund.

With the cross country season coming up in late Autumn, West Limerick AC are organising an event which should appeal to club athletes in training as well as those who have never tried X-Country before.

The third annual Open XC takes place in the Demense, Newcastle West on August 28th. Starts at 12pm. Adult races start at approximately 1.30. This has proved to be a big success since its inception and clubs travel from all over Munster. There is something for everyone and it will give a good base for the competiting athletes ahead of their upcoming cross country championship races.
Entry Fees: Mens 8k €10, Ladies 5k €10, Fit4Life 2 miles €7, Juveniles €5
Registration from 11am at the Newcastle West Community Centre.

In marked contrast to a lot of other races in Munster which are losing numbers, the Boston Scientific Half-Marathon in Clonmel continues to grow with a record 616 finishers this year, up 6% on 2015. Leevale AC from Cork dominated the top of the field in both the men's and women's races with Claire McCarthy setting a new course record of 1:15:10. The previous record of 1:20:35 was set by Angela McCann of Clonmel AC back in 2012.

Kerry...Results of the Annascaul 5k & 10 - Sat 6th Aug 2016
In 2015, there was a modest 132 taking part in this 5k & 10k event in Annascaul in West Kerry...79 in the 5k and 53 in the 10k. This year, there has been a big drop in number with only 79 taking part, a drop of some 40%. There were 50 in the 5k and just 29 in the 10k.

Notice...An Riocht AC 5k Series, Castleisland Co.Kerry - Sept 2016
This Autumn 5 km race series is coming up in Caslteisland, Co.Kerry on three Wednesday evenings in September. The entry fee is €5 for the first two with the last one costing €10.
The series is organised by An RÃocht AC and registration for each race is at their clubhouse at the track in Castleisland.
Anyone entering the last race and one of the first two will receive a buff. This can be worn in various positions on the head but the most useful use is probably that of a neck scarf on cold winter days

The numbers were down a small bit for this years Banna Strand 5k & 10k in North Kerry which was held on Sunday the 31st of July 2016. In comparison to other races though, a drop of 2.4% is pretty insignificant.
Between the two races, a total of 285 runners took part which is good for an event in North Kerry. There were 145 in the 5k while there were 140 in the 10k.
