Kerry....Results of the Killarney 5 km Road Race - Sat 20th Feb 2010

This was the 3rd race of the 4 in the Gneeveguilla AC 5k series of races in Killarney for the month of February. A total of 86 runners took part which is about the same as previous races. From what I hear, the weather was kind once again with blue skies and sunshine for the race.

Race Report by John Dunphy...
A good turn out of 86 runners and walkers showed up on a cold but very sunny morning. When conditions are like this, there is no better place than Killarney National Park to hold a 5k road race with such beautiful scenery. The race itself took place on a very flat and fast course with little or no wind and conditions were ideal for some fast times.

In form Ed Murphy of Gneeveguilla AC continued where he left off in last weeks race by securing top spot for the second week in a row with a impressive time of 15.54, knocking 19 seconds off from his winning time in last weeks race. Another man showing some great form at the moment is John Barrett of Gneeveguilla AC beating his previous times in this series of 17.00 and 16.37 mins to take second place today in a time of 16.36. Third man home was ever present Billy O'Brien of An Riocht AC with another fine performance running 17.21 to finish with 13 seconds to spare over Kenneth Barry (no club) in fourth spot.

Anna Meria Costello also of Gneeveguilla AC was first lady home showing some good form in a time of 18.59 and for the second week running taking top spot in the senior female category. Mary O'Connor of An Riocht AC was second lady home with another solid performance in this series after competing in the previous two races.

Thumbs up to Gneeveguilla AC for another terrific and well organized 5k road race in the fabulous Killarney national park.
