The Kilmeedy 5 mile road race in West Limerick is coming up on Friday, the 3rd of August 2012. It starts at 7:30pm and is the 8th race in the Ballyhoura Active Series.
Kilmeedy is a small village located about 10 kms or 6 miles to the south-east of Newcastle West.
Directions......
From Buttevant......take the R522 road for Newcastle West. In Dromcollogher, take the first major right hand turn in the town. Follow the signposts for the R519 and Ballingarry. Kilmeedy is located on the R519.From Newcastle West.....from the roundabout at the eastern side of the town, take the R520. After almost exactly 5 miles / 8 kms, you will come to a crossroads which is clearly marked. Take the right here for Kilmeedy.
From the N20 Cork-Limerick road.....At Rourke's Cross (5 miles/8 kms to the N of Charleville. new petrol station here), take the R518 for Newcastle West. After 5.6 miles/9 kms, take the R520 for Newcastle West. After a further 3 miles/5 kms, take the R519 left for Kilmeedy.
From Rathkeale.....From the centre of the town, take the R518 for Ballingarry. After almost exactly 1 mile, take a right. Kilmeedy is signposted from here.
Registration is at Áras Íde Resource Centre at the crossroads in Kilmeedy.

Course details.......The race more or less starts and finishes at the crossroads in the village and takes in a five mile loop to the south-west....see pic above. The race starts outside Geary's Garage and heads west. Very roughly speaking, most of the downhill running is in the first half of the race while most of the uphill sections are in the second half, especially in the last mile. None of the inclines though are not really too much to be bothered about. The finish is near the crossroads back in Kilmeedy again.
